Workstation SlimSAS ports don't see HDDs

Those SlimSAS ports are for PCIe only. So U.2 for example, not SATA.

Hello,

I really could use some help from someone here. I was tasked at my job to build a workstation. Everything went well with the build; it is posting and seeing every device except for the HDDs that are connected to the Slim SAS ports built-in the motherboard.

The Specs are;

CPU Intel XEON w7-3465X

Motherboard ASUS Pro WS W790 SAGE SE Intel LGA 4677

Ram 256 GB DDR5 ECC

Storage

-NVME 2x Samsung 980 pro 2TB NVME

-HDD 5x Seagate EXOS 18TB SATA 7200rpm

GPU RTX 3070

The only way the drives (sata) show up is when I plug them in the SATA ports and then I can set RAID on those.

I also purchase the VROC key needed for RAID on CPU

Cables used to connect the drives to the slimsas port: https://www.amazon.ca/Slim-SFF-8654-Target-Fanout-Cable/dp/B073F67WVN/ref=sr_1_5?crid=L0YBJQTID9US&keywords=slimsas+to+sata&qid=1696340162&sprefix=slimsas+to+sata%2Caps%2C122&sr=8-5

Thank you for your answer. Really helpful. I think I saw that on the manual but I didn't pay too much attention to it. So, what if I want to use those sata drives with a PCIe raid card. Is there a compatibility restriction on which I should use?

You can set the SlimSAS Configuration to either PCIe or SATA in the BIOS under the Onboard Devices Configuration
