I have an old (or some years at least) 1000GB Samsung HDD that I have been using in my MacBook Pro. I used Windows a lot, so I had one partition Mac OS and one partition Windows (you guys know how it works...)

After building my gaming rig, I wanted to get my stuff from the Windows partition (on MBP) over to the much more redundant RAID storage on my rig, but the Windows partition is not usable at all! The Mac OS partition is just fine, but the Win partition is not readable (I get the partition index but that’s it, and I can’t seem recover anything – can’t even open the partition without the computer freezing and begging for shutdown).

Since the Mac OS partition is just fine I figured this is not a crash or sector failure, but I really need those ‘lost’ images (and other stuff) from the Win partition back  Any ideas? Thx!

So it doesn't even show up at all? Are you sure the BIOS is configed properly?

Try using Easeus' partition recovery software to see if it can repair the partition.

When my mother's motherboard died I couldn't boot up windows with the replacement.  I believe I used just regular ubuntu live cd to get everything off the hdd before I formatted it and re-installed windows.  I don't remember exactly how but if you do some googling you should find some guides.  Some forum members use linux distros and may be able to help you as well.  Good luck.

I use a Hiren BootCD and load up Mini XP,

Live CDs with Linux are also very helpful too if you want to take that route

Yes, one partition is simply gone. The BIOS is configured in RAID (OS on double OCZ Vector RAID0), but the results are the same for AHCI config. Thanks guys, I’ll try the software–way and see if I can recover anything. Although I try to be careful with those ‘script’ kind auto recovery tools since I dunno what they actually do (for all I know they just messing it up more) :p I’ll see what I can find out :)
