Ok, so i just got my new audio set up. A pair of audio technica ath-ad700x and an Asus Xonar DSX. I was previously using a logitech g930. Idk if im just doing something wrong but i am 100% not happy with my purchase atm.. this sounds horrible. I have my audio technicas plugged into the green headphone jack of the sound card. For all i know, this is the wrong one, please correct me if it is. And in my sound settings i have the "Asus Xonar DSX Audio Device" (Speakers) selected. the other option is "Asus Xonar DSX Audio Device" (S/PDIF Pass-Through Device). Once again if this is in correct let me know. To me this does not sound anywhere close to 7.1 and sounds considerably worse than my g930's. If im doing something wrong please let me know.

-Note: This is my first time with headphone/soundcard mix. So Idk much about it.

Well did you install the drivers successfully? I don't know how to turn anything on, I just looked at ASUS's DSX product page and it says it has something called "GX 2.5" for virtual surround sound.

If you've got some sort of sound icon in the tray then you don't need to try reinstalling.

Take a screen shot of the control panel for me?

Oh no, it should look like this:

Set everything to headphones, and then I'm guessing the "GX" button on the bottom right corner turns virtual surround on.

not really.. im switching between 2 speakers and 7.1 and there is no difference at all.. :/

That's because those are for connecting multiple speakers to all the ports on the back. Select "Headphone" in the drop down menu, and then try out that GX button

What application are you using to play musics? Try using Foobar2000, then install the WASAPI plugin (google for more information on how to do this). After that, open the asus audio center app (like above), and click the HF (Hi-Fi) button.WASAPI bypass the directsound algorithm and go for straight access to the device, HF nullify any EQ, effects, and other sound settings. So you should get the purest sound possible from the soundcard. If it still sound bad, then perhaps something's wrong with the hardware (could be jack not plugged properly, to defect product).

My xonar DG sounds good with those 2 settings above. Not crazy good, but above average, at least. Your DSX should at least sound the same as DG, if not better...
