Hello all

I’m looking for some guidance on a cpu /setup  a

I'm currently running a dayz server and a Minecraft server on an old i7 3770 what goes to 3.9 with 16 gb of ram. But for limited reasons I can only run one at a time. Would I be better off to get a new motherboard and more ram. As my motherboard only supports 16gb ram .

Or  i do have 2x e5 2697 v4 CPUs what i was thinking to sale  or to just sale one and use the other if this would out perform

But On the other hand I was going to buy an old 4790k if this would out perform the CPUs above.

the servers are single core heavy I believe but  I’m not sure what would be better for them to run at the same time

thanks you

Multiple questions:

1. Why does your Motherboard only support 16gb ram?

2. Do you have a motherboard/Ram for the 2697v4?

3. Do you have a mother board for the 4790k?

4. Are you sure ram is the bottleneck? Or do you need more/faster Cores?

Hi

the mother bored is only a cheap Asus P8H61-MX R2.0 what supports max 16gb.

negative i only have the CPUs from a old system I had before a bios corrupted

and was going to buy the 4790k of it offered better performance over the two

Also I’m not sure if the CPUs would be a bottleneck for running them both at the same due to clock speeds . Or as you said it’s a ram bottleneck

Thank you for the response

Mh that's strange. It does mention the 16gb limit in the manual but it also lists 4x8gb as compatible. Honestly with the cheap prices of ddr3 memory I'd just try it with 32gb before doing anything else. Also maybe try monitoring CPU and ram usage while running a server to see where the limit actually is.
