Torn between two options.

Hey!

The SSD I wanted to buy went up in price, so I was left with buying a mediocre drive or getting 15% more expensive high end one, and I chose the latter.

Two SSD's that caught my attention are: PNY XLR8 CS3140 2TB(no heatsink) and ADATA XPG Gammix S70 Blade 2TB(really small heatsink). They are the same price here in Poland(so no US pricing) and I thought I could ask for a second opinion.

I want to place then as my new OS drive in the primary PCIE 4.0 slot on B550 Aorus Elite V2 rev 1.0.

I would personally choose the ADATA drive over the PNY. If I am not mistaken, the same chip manufacturer that makes ADATA memory modules also makes samsung.

I'd recommend PNY. It has better speeds and is good.

personally i would spend the extra money on getting the one i want because if or when it fails, if you dont have it backed up, you will lose everything and both of these are kind of subpar to most others

Neither PNY or ADATA I would say is truly high-end -- typically that would be those of like Samsung, WD, Intel, Crucial, etc. But they are good enough for most tasks.

 

I don't think heatsink is really a issue. For me (who still think NVMe is mostly snake oil, although there are connectivity reasons) I'll just look for whichever one have the most endurance. It's not as if you can get their low 4K performances as numbers, anyway.

 

Or whichever one seem to have the most number of chips.

 

In fact, if I were you I will get the one *without* the heatsink. This way if I want to put it inside something else (be it enclosure, another motherboard with built-in heatsink, or a laptop), I can do that and not be stuck with some protruding heat sink.

It’s Phison E18 + 2GB DDR4 + 96l TLC micron

 

S70 blade is

InnoGrit IG5236 + 2TB DDR4 + 

NANDv1: 96l TLC microna
NANDv2: 176 TLC microna (B47R)
NANDv3: 128l TLC YMLC ( CDT1B ).

 

and there are reports of the NAND dying on this model.
even if you would be lucky the get the 176L TLC micron NAND ( and you probably won't be lucky ), the IG5236 only have 1,200 MT/s channels, so it will no benefit the faster NAND,
