I'm a bit bored of my current build and as many PC enthousiasts can probably understand, the urge to build / upgrade something is too big to ignore..

I currently have:

5800X3D @ -30 CO stock or 102.1875 BCLK -23 CO

B550 Unify-X

32GB Trident-Z Royal Elite 3600C14 @ 3800C14-14-14-22-36-240-1T GDM Off

4070 Ti Gaming X Trio @ 3030 core +750 VRAM or uv 2730 @ 0.930v +500 VRAM

Fractal Torrent White

Arctic LF2 420 rev 5 with offset mount and push pull Alpenfohn Wing Boost 3.

1TB 980 Pro + 970 EVO + 2x500GB SATA 850 EVO's in RAID-0.

Also have a full custom loop laying around from my previous build with a EK XRES Revo 140 D5 (sleeved), 420+240 Nemesis GTX rads, EK Velocity D-RGB (115x Intel version, has AM4 brackets but no offset or AMD jet plate) clear mayhems tubing and coolant, fittings everything just not running it as the 5800X3D totally doesn't need it and my GPU has no block available.

So yeah, I wanna finish this build as completely white themed so I was thinking of getting a ASUS B650-A board, 7800X3D and some Kingston 6000-32-38-38 @ 1.35v white non-RGB RAM but I don't know if it would make sense considering I have "just" a 4070 Ti. I also just play at 1080p 240/280Hz no high res so maybe CPU matters more here.

So TL:DR. CPU platform AM4 X3D --> AM5 7800X3D/7950X3D or 4070 Ti --> 4080/4090

What's your budget for this upgrade? And what country are you in? And is this just used for gaming?

theres no reason to, but if you absolutely want to, cpu. theres no reason to have even a 4070ti for 1080p, even high refresh rate, youre always gonna be cpu limited.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

What would be a use case for the 7950x3d?

I'd go with the 7800x3d if you have to.

I mean it depends on the game tbh. Some games that are super graphically intensive would be limited at 1080p by the gpu before the 5800x3d.

Thanks for the replies!

I don't intent to replace the monitor(s) any time soon. I'm so used to 1080p I don't mind it. With modern upscaling techniques and such it looks fine.

Cyberpunk and Starfield are quite GPU limited even at 1080p but frame generation works miracles.

It's purely for gaming. I have a work laptop for other tasks.

It's not like this system doesn't perform well but it's just the big you know lol. And the build doesn't look as good as I want it to because it's not color matched properly.

I am also lining up a trade of my Gaming X Trio for a Gigabyte Aero V1 4070 Ti as it's white.

The 7950X3D was just an option as there was one listed used locally for 400 bucks which would be worth it.

Oh and I'm from the Netherlands btw.

The 7800X3D + B650-A + Kingston RAM would be about €748. I can probably get 450 for my current set as it all has warranties and all boxes and such still with it.

I mean it's heavily settings dependent. On the top of my head I would think starfield might be one or other very demanding games. I mean on one of the rtx 4070ti reviews there was still a difference in performance between the 4080 at 1080p even when averaging between the games. Granted i don't have the individual game numbers but I would guess that the difference is more in some games and nonexistent in others.

Why not flip the 4070Ti off to get a 4080? The 5800X3D should be all good for that, but 7800X3D would still be better even if you can find the 2 CCD X3D chips for cheaper or same price just to dodge AMD dodgy software scheduler on it because its only half X3D on the CCD, the other one are not X3D dies and functions just like a normal Zen 4.

Well, that's kinda what I was asking. I could do that and it would cost about the same as a full platform upgrade. But, most games at 1080p run into engine limits already FPS wise like Division 2, Fallout 76, World of Tanks. None of them can utilize the 4070 Ti fully at all times but give well over 200 FPS with the exception of FO76 as I have to cap FPS to 182 to prevent getting stuck in interior cells as the engine can't cope with 190+.

Plus, it wouldn't solve the color issue of the build not matching. I did line up a 1 to 1 trade for a Aero (V1) 4070 Ti so that's going to be white.

There is a X670 Aorus Elite listed locally for a good deal but it has terrible onboard audio (ALC897) and I'm not a fan of Gigabyte BIOS however it would look good visually in the build and besides the audio it's a very well equipped board..

Also, a set of used white 6200C36 dom plats with the X in the model number so it has the 1.9v PMIC as well.. hmm..

Edit: I looked at some reviews for the 7800X3D and noticed for example in Cyberpunk (with a 4090) even a 13900K is a massive bottleneck at 1080p. The X3D with identical GPU will gain more FPS then a GPU upgrade would ever do. That's why I wanna keep the 4070 Ti and just upgrade to a 7800X3D as it seems to give, on average over all games, a larger increase then a 4080 upgrade on the 5800X3D ever could. And it consumes way way less power. The 4070 Ti is incredibly efficient power wise with a slight undervolt.

I understand the want to keep building and upgrading once you've tasted building. It's really fun!

That said for 1080p gaming... There is nothing here that won't excel.

Maybe a monitor upgrade? You'll pull 60FPS at 4k in practically anything.

When I was jonesin' badly to build, I started grabbing up used parts and systems, rebuilding and selling them. That helped me chill the f out on things.
