Hi, I'm trying to reformat an old Samsung 2.5" SSD so I can sell my old system. When I run Windows creation tool on the system with just the SSD as any other storage device in the system it shows up as Disk 3 @ 500GB with an error saying unable to boot to as set in an MBR partition and Disk 4 @ 460GB with an error saying unable to boot to this device with no context. Clicking on either of the drives gives me the option of refreshing or updating drivers, only the smaller partition gives me another option of creating a new partition but when I try to do so it just says unable to do so.

I have a SATA to USB adapter so I tried plugging in the SSD to my laptop to see if I could format it in some way but it does not appear anywhere, from file explorer to disk manager or device manafer. Does anyone have any clue?

Note: I do wonder if my SATA to USB adapter is broken as I tried it with a 2.5 HHD which I don't care about, it span but nothing appeared again.

TLDR: SSD has 2 partitions in Windows installation media and can not be formatted or merged, in another device does not appear at all with a SATA to USB adapter.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this drive as I am trying to sell this before going back to Uni as I am in need of the money.

Personally I always used an Ubuntu Live USB stick and gparted to switch old drives to GPT partition format.  Once you've done that Windows will install.
