Going from Ryzen 5600x to 5800x3d for a RTX 3080Ti

TechGod

Budget (including currency): 1000-1300AUD

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Starfield, Overwatch, Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, Cities Skylines, Control

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Current CPU: 5600x

Current GPU: RTX 3080Ti

CPU Cooler: Noctua D15 chroma black

Case: NZXT H510 Elite

Current PSU: EVGA G2 750W

Resolution and framerate: 1440P HDR 165hz

The reason I am thinking of the new CPU is because I'm having stutters in Starfield and Cyberpunk and from what I've seen, the 5800X3D has much better minimums and smoother frame timings.

I will also be upgrading my case and PSU for better airflow since the case is not good and the new PSU for when in future I get a RTX 4090/AMD equivalent in the future. Some additional info, I am only going to upgrade the case and PSU if I go ahead with this CPU upgrade. Here's the list

tldr: Worth going from a 5600x to 5800x3d for a 3080Ti at 1440P 165hz?

I would say it's worth it.

My First PC
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
Cooler: Asus TUF Gaming LC240
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B550-f gaming
RAM: 4x8 GB Corsair Vengeance RS (3200 MHz, CL16)
Storage: 1tb Samsung 980 Pro
Graphics Card: Asus Dual RTX 2060 OC
Case: Deepcool Matrexx 50
Power Supply: Corsair RM650x
Headset: Razer Blackshark V2
Keyboard: Corsair K70 Pro Mini (Speed Silver switches)
Mouse: Razer Viper Mini
Only changes I have made is I sold the 2060 for $235 AUD and bought a Powercolor Red Devil 6700 XT for $400 second hand (it was barely used, think I scored a deal on Ebay with that).
I'm learning video editing and trying to get some cash as a high school student.
I like F1, my favourite team is Scuderia Ferrari and favourite driver is Charles Leclerc. Favourite track is Red Bull Ring in Austria.
Playing with a 1080p 60hz monitor right now, hoping to upgrade to a 1440p 144hz one soon.

Living in AU and that pisses me off since every event is late at night or early in the morning (almost every F1 race starts around 11 PM AEST time)

Yup, upgrading your CPU to 5800X3D will dramatically improve your FPS especially on the 1% lows (stuttering). Based on Hardware Unboxed comparison, 5800X3D has 27% improvement on the 1% low FPS compared to non-X3D counterpart. Sorry they don't show the 5600X variant

P.S.

1. Depending on your game directory storage, it might affect your performance. By having it stored at NVME Gen3 or Gen4 should make a good experience

2. Your current case is good enough, as long as your PC case fans are working and in good configuration of intake and outtake. But if your going to upgrade an PSU, PC case and GPU, might be as well as make a new build.

Ah I’m not upgrading my GPU. My 3080Ti is perfectly fine for now but the 4090 comment was more about upgrading in 3 years or so on that front.

The only reason I want to change my case is because I’ve seen reviews mentioning it’s very poor thermal performance and if I’m having a 5800x3d and 3080Ti, I want to make sure it has good cooling

Ah, it's for years later I see.

If you find joy in rebuilding PC, I would say go for it

For the new PC case of choice though, I would recommend Lian Li Lancool 216

It's really flexible whether you wanna use AIO or Tower Style, the best cooling performance in Gamers Nexus review, cost just a bit more than Lian Li O11, and it has white variant

It even has removable/hinge rotatable top compartment for easier PC fan or AIO radiator installation

Yeah case airflow would get you in the end but the D15 should be fine for stock X3D operation. More concerned about the board not playing ball and power throttling it, whats the motherboard?

It’s a ASUS ROG STRIX B550-A GAMING ATX. If that needs to be upgraded as well, I’ll just do a brand new build next year.

Nope, you don't really have to upgrade your motherboard

B550 is compatible with 5800X3D, just make sure your BIOS is up-to-date

The only time you have to worry on your motherboard is if you're using Ax20 series motherboard, such as A520 (for AM4 platform) or A620 (for AM5 platform)

This motherboard variant has too much restriction, no PBO, and even un-overclocked X3D series chip will sometimes hit thermal throttle when gaming just because lack of thermal conductor material

Nope, youre solid. Best bang for the buck board out there on release next to B550-A Pro by MSI. Hit the road with that thing.

Yeah I’m just kicking myself because I researched every other part except the case and didn’t think I’d have the money for parts that would need more than 750W in the future.

but really appreciate your help!
