Need LPDDR4 only have DDR4

Go to solution Solved by fohatadri,

It means that the CPU can support either DDR3L or LPDDR4 but that is "SUPPORTED", doesn't mean that a motherboard can support two different RAM "styles".
That means if your computer has DDR3L, you are stuck with it. Same would apply if your computer had LPDDR4.

There's is no such thing as one motherboard supporting DDR3 and DDR4 or DDR5 at the same time, it's simply not a thing.

- I want to upgrade my old Acer laptop from the current DDR3 4gb to 8gb with only 1 slot of memory (I did take off the laptop's back cover and check it only have 1 slot WHY ACER!)

- I try to find replacements LPDDR4 ram which can't since all the search will automatically correct to normal DDR4 sodimm Ram

- Intel pentium N4200, on their Arc site it can accept up to 2400MT/s and 8gb LPDDR4

- I'm curious if i can use normal DDR4 sodimm 1x8gb ram since i can't find any LPDDR4 one online in the south east Asian market

- The attach image show the current LPDDR3? DDR3L? ram I'm using which rated 1.35v Arc did suggest the cpu is compatible with lpddr4.

That is LPDDR3 SODIMM chief. I personally never even seen LPDDR4 SODIMMS.

Even though the CPU supports it, the BIOS and Motherboard (ie components and BIOS) also need to be compatible.

LPDDR4 SODIMM's have a different key/pinout, so they won't fit.

Did you missed the part where it says this?

so tldr ddr4 sodimm and LPDDR4 sodimm is different physical, and need bios compatibility to accept LPDDR4? so my best bet is stick with 8gb DDR3L (the current model)?

The memory controller on the CPU does support DDR4, however your laptop motherboard is wired for DDR3. There is no simple swap to upgrade this. If you have skills in PCB reverse engineering and design, you could make a newer laptop motherboard that uses DDR4 by swapping over all the other ICs and such but most people don't have that skill.

yeah, thank for the suggestion, but it's not worth it, so mu best bet to stick with current DDRL3 but upgrade to 8gb

I see confusion.

DDR3 and DDR3L are essentially the same thing, with the latter qualified to run at lower voltage, and therefore power.

LPDDR is a totally different thing. I think I've only ever seen it soldered, not in SODIMM form. The number system does not track with regular DDR!

The chances are DDR3L modules will work so look for them. Nothing to do with LPDDR in any form.
