Sometimes I crash to the desktop, sometimes there's a sound-loop and the entire computer freezes, forcing me to hit the restart button.

I have just built this new PC, I've used Geforce experience to download the  graphics drivers. I had the 335 version before, I even updated to the latest beta drivers, still no luck. I have installed my motherboard drivers correctly. My BIOS is outdated  by 2 months, but I hardly believe it's worth going to such giant amounts of trouble to update a BIOS when I don't even know if that's the problem, which I highly doubt anyway.

Everything is new. I used my GPU is a previous computer for roughly 4-5 months. That ended up failing on me, hence why I got a new computer, using the same GPU and PSU.

My stats go as follow:

i7 4770k.

Dark Rock 3 cooler.

16gb of Corsair Vengenace RAM, 1866hz. (in the BIOS it says it's 1333hz, but I went into OC setting and upped it to 1866hz)

z87 MSI G65 gaming motherboard.

Samsubg 840 250gb SSD

Corsair CS750M PSU.

Gigabyte Geforce GTX 780ti Windforce edition. It's "Factory overclocked" if that means anything.

2TB Hard-drive.

Phantom 410 case. Black and orange.

Windows 8.1

A monitor connected with a VGA adaptor. (blue thingy to VGA)

I do not understand the cause of this. It cannot be my drivers as they are all up to date. It cannot be any hardware issue surely as everything is brand-new. Everything else works fine APART from games. I can play them for roughly 10 minutes to 2 hours... but somewhere in that time, I will crash.

The games I play are Counter strike: Global offensive and Battlefield 4. I am modding Skyrim up too. TF2. L4D2, GMOD. Possibly Titanfall in the near future.

Here's an image I get when I crash from Battlefield. It never changes, this is the only message I ever see apart from the occasional "Battlefield has stopped working" or a total system freeze that forces me to press the restart button.

Please help, I feel awful. I've put so much time and effort into this computer and I do not want to fall as soon as I begin. Please can someone help.

PLEASE NOTE: I am not advanced at computers. If you start suggesting things such as "Flash the BIOS" "Do a clean install / boot" then please explain what it is and how to do it, and why it should be attempted. Random suggestions won't help anything.

What GPU are you using? (Sorry, I didn't see the picture) and is it overclocked, even factory overclocked?

And try enabling XMP in the BIOS, insted of just dialing the RAM speed in. Sometime the timings and the voltage don't follow the speed.

It is factory overclocked. And I have no idea what XMP is and how to go about handling it.

xmp is a ram profile in your bios that you can set which sets the ram to what the manafacturer built the ram for (basicly the right settings for your ram)

Also, I tried "OC genie" earlier, as my motherboard supports it. This gave me the blue screen of death. I had to turn it off, and everything seemed to return to normal. What on earth happened there?

My monitor is awful. It only supports that. I will be getting HDMI soon.

What's so bad about VGA? Explain? Is it causing a problem for me?

yeah i thought you meant only vga :P misread my bad :) (no hard feelings)

In the BIOS there should be an option to enable XMP. This is a memory profile, that put in all the information needed to run the RAM at the rated speed. It's not as easy as just setting it to the speed manually.

How can I identify and find it in the MSI BIOS?

It is usually located the same place as the CPU settings. Probaly under ´OC´ if I'm not mistaken. It's probably the same place you set the RAM speed.

Ah I see. So are you telling me that all I have to do, is go into the BIOS, enable that, and eveything should be ok?

Is there anything that could go  horrifically wrong? I've already had a blue screen today for trying out "OC genie" and I'd rather not kill my 4 day old computer.

We are saying that this might be the problem, not that it definitely is. But it is something that can be taken off the list of potential problems

Enableling XMP is perfectly safe, as is BSoDs. You computer BSoDs so that it will not cause harm to it self.

Okay. Well. I'll give it a go, I assume if the problem persists, I'll put it back to disabled.

Also, why is it that the BIOS says my RAM is 1333 Mhz speed when it's 1866 Mhz?

Thanks for the useful picture.

Why is it that the RAM is depicted as 1333Mhz when my RAM is 1866 Mhz? I upped the DRAM frequency and that's it. Should I be tweaking anything else?

That's becuase there can be problems with booting up with the RAM when it's running at maximum speed. When it comes to RAM, there is a lot of variables. This is why XMP exists.

There is no reason to disable XMP, even if it doesn't solve your problem. Just enable it and leave it be.

How would you go about re-installing Directx? Isn't it complicated / dangerous / thin ice?

Not at all dangerous

Just re install or swap to full release drivers first

Then test if it works

It appears that it crashed on both full release and beta. I might as well keep with the beta.

Apparently the latest version of Directx can only be installed through Windows Update for users of 8.1 (me) so... hmm... I don't see how a reinstall of directx would help judging from the fact this computer it literally 4 days old?

Since you have Battlefield 4, you can find the DirectX Setup in the Battlefield 4 folder. It's located in "Battlefield 4 → _Installer → directx"

Well, I've enabled it. Any other further suggestions that I could try if the problem persists?

None other than, try and see if it works.

I have run into a new issue upon playing Battlefield 4, merely 5 minutes ago.

I now soundloop. I do not crash, but very similar things happen. The screen freezes, looping sound. Then everything goes silent, then it continues as normal. This kept happening every 20-40 seconds.

What on earth happened?
