Do Free-Sync even work ??

Hello There !

 

I'm used to play with (and testing) VRR displays for like 4 to 5 years now and, i must say, it's very useful

 

And on all monitors i've got and all nVidia gpus i had so far, i never had a single issue getting it working :

--> whatever i was using a FreeSync / FreeSync Prenium / G-Sync certified or not display

 

--> whatever it was in fullscreen (exclusive or not), windowed or Borderless

 

--> whatever API the game was using (i even got it working on old DX7 titles through wrappers like dgVoodoo)

 

--> and whatever the game in question (even Bayonetta worked perfectly)..

 

...But each time i tried with AMD gpus.. i doesn't work..

I've tested hundreds of games over the years and had a dozens of monitors and AMD gpus for testing .. and i never got the VRR working in any game i've tested so far with AMD

I'm aware that Free-Sync with AMD only work technically on (Exclusive) Fullscreen mode but most of games don't have one so why AMD did not allow it to work on any other configuration ? 

 

Because the ONLY game that i manage to get Free-Sync (kinda) "working" was on DOOM 2016... but this game also like to change your refresh rate back to 60Hz, and the only way to stop that is to go with windowed or borderless... and guess what ? no VRR support on AMD for those mode

 

So.. is any of you managed to get Free-Sync working properly at least once ? because i'm pretty sure i'm doing something wrong by now because nobody seems to be complaining of Free-Sync with AMD compared to nVidia who has a bad reputation on that side... which is weird because i never had any issues with those personnaly..
