CPU < GPU?

im planning on buying a GTX 1660s matching it with my G4560 cpu. i was wondering whether the cpu is enough or should i just upgrade the cpu?

Mordern gaming is entirely off the table with a g4560. It can stretch to about 2018 with lots of stuttering in games but that is about it. There is also no good upgrade on your platform as the price for a used i7 is often more than a WAY better new cpu and the i7 is the bare minimum for games these day.

 

Also what is your psu model? That is important to know if the 1660s can even work.

That's an old / weak enough CPU that upgrading it piecemeal is probably not worth the squeeze.

 

Replacing it with a "budget" modern build would be waaaay better.  A 12100 or 13100 would be a huge jump from your current build, even if you kept using DDR4.

I'd opt for a ryzen 5600 so you don't end up with a 4c/8t cpu again as those are at their limits nowadays.

The general rule for upgrade is:

"do I spend half as much to upgrade, or do I spend twice as much to replace?"

 

You should always replace the CPU first when you use the unworth-of-being-named i-series parts, because those parts are under-performing at best, and at worst are actively harming your ability to to anything productive.

 

Like just on the single thread performance, upgrading to the CPU to the lowest performing 13th gen i-series gains you 43% more performance before you look at the multi-core performance which is 4 times better.

 

dGPU upgrades should generally be done as a cross-upgrade, eg 1060 to 2060 to 3060 to 4060 unless you are looking to go from 1080p to 4K gaming, in which case 4K gaming pretty much requires a 2080/3080/4080 or better.

 

If you're coming from an iGPU-only configuration, pretty much at this point everything is an upgrade. However desktop iGPU's are always weak parts because they're usually "just barely powerful enough" to watch youtube and netflix.

What is the price for the 1660s?

Im playing FPS games as of now on low graphics.

Im using corsair cv 550w 80+bronze

Which fps games? Anything from the last 5 years will struggle to run at 60fps stably on a g4560 no matter the gpu simply due to lack of threads. Also 16gb of ram is needed for most.

 

That will work with a cv550.

 

Whats the price for a 5700xt? It's faster and often same price.
