Whats that stuff around the soldering points? (with Pic)

Hi,

 

i picked up a very old PC and found some "stuff" around the soldering points in the PSU and i was wondering, what the hell is it??

 

I know that moisture and other crap can lead to this kind of..."thing", but i doubt that it's the case with this one...looks different...

That "stuff" around the solder is flux, and it's used to clean the solder points

Flux, which is basically a heat activated acid, as others have said it cleans the metal when it's heated to give the best surface for forming a soldered bond.

 

and then looks gross after if it isn't wiped off.
