ive got the same sort of led strip, about every foot there are bare copper parts where you can cut them into shorter sections and  you can solder wires to, to connect multiple strips to, also i have all my strips running off one of my fan takeoffs from my case, no external power sources needed

I suggest to get one without the external power supply since it`s going inside the case and I'm assuming you'd like the remote controller with the special effects:

Can't you just use the existing power connections from each individual strip and solder new wire onto each end at the separation point of the cut? Or can you only solder wires onto one half? and then solder wires from one gold bit the respective gold bit on the other side? Wouldn't that enable one controller to power and control all the strips?

edit: found a good pic of what i mean

This could be done, if he knows how to solder, and the strips aren't very far apart.

If the desk and bed are on opposite sides of the room, the buying two kits would be much easier, and you could mix and match colors that way. I'm putting separate controllers in the kitchen as my wife wants alternating red and green for christmas, etc.

You'd need a power supply and an IR controller if you want to change colors.

Note that the controller says this on the webpage:

  • Input Voltage: 12V (Power supply is not included. You can easily connect to the standard notebook computer power supply

Don't do that... most laptop power supplies are 19V and you'll likely fry the strips and controller. I had some 3528 LED strips that weren't very bright and I tried running at 19Vs for a bit of a boost, they lasted about an hour.
