Hi , I hope you are having a good day, I need help with a second router I purchased.

The main router is the isp one , it's default gateway is 192.168.1.254

The second one it's a Huawei ax3 pro and it's default gateway is 192.168.3.1

This is connected via Ethernet to lan 1 of the main router and to the wan port.

What in trying to achieve here is to get to the second router main page through the PC connected to the first one via Ethernet.

I've set the second router to bridge (AP) , but I can't reach it . The default gateway is still the same. And If I let it as dhcp there's no option ( at least I don't see it) to disable it and put an static IP in order to see it from the main router.

Can anyone please help me? Thanks.

They're on different subnets, so unless you have some routing policies set up, you won't be able to do that without some modifications.

AP mode should turn off DHCP on the AX3's LAN side. You can either give the AX3 a static IP or leave it to obtain one from the upstream primary router. The latter is easier. You should be able to find the IP assignment in the primary router's client table.

Plug the ethernet uplink into the LAN port of the AX3, then power-cycle.

Anyone please, I'm going to connect 2 PCs on the second router and I need to access them in order to share files from one room to another .

Plug the ethernet cable from the primary router into the WAN port of the AX3 and reset the AX3 to defaults. Run the setup wizard again making sure to choose “Bridge (AP)” as your internet connection mode. Your client device must be connected to the AX3 during setup.

Afterwards, with the client still connected to the AX3, are you still able to get out to the internet?

Thanks ,I just did the factory reset and made the steps you said , but its the same story. I can't reach the ax3 router trough my main PC connected to the ISP router. And yes the ax3 it's in bridge mode. _20230809_120234.thumb.JPG.52d67f6da4f919092ce8f5f292f17730.JPG

By chance, does the AX3 have any configuration page for LAN or WAN IP setup while in bridge mode?

Yes it has ,but look what happens if I try to put the same IP address that the main router assign to the ax3 one:

Huawei is doing some weirdness, as usual.

Can you set the LAN IP address to 192.168.1.254, for example? I suspect that they are using “segment” and “subnet” interchangeably, which would make this change not work either.

If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to see if creating a static route from the primary router is possible.

Let me see if I can , I'll try to put .253 because my main router gateway it's 192.168.1.254

I guess it's the static routes at the ISP device.

Np , I'm gonna try the static route, if doesn't work then is the Huawei router that's blocking me.

The normal response to AP mode or bridge mode is that the device becomes another LAN client. You should be able to set static IPs or let the upstream router do so via DHCP.

You’re trying to traverse different subnets (i.e. from 192.168.1.x to 192.168.3.x). Normally, you can’t do this from the primary router unless you have static routes set up. However, if you connect to the AX3, you should be able to access the 192.168.1.x subnet without any pre-establish routes.

Yup, from the Huawei one I can access all the way up to the main router, but not the other way around, it's late now, I'm gonna try what you suggest and see if I can achieve that. Thanks for all your time and support. I really appreciate it.

From my limited experience with an Honor Router 3 (I think it was still based on Huawei tech), Huawei have a very odd configuration in AP Mode and I think this is one of the problems I ran into.

On the Honor they also disabled all ethernet ports except the one they specify for AP mode, rather than letting you use it as a switch like every other router I'm aware of does.

You're right, I wasn't able to direct route. I'm going keep searching for a solution.
