Hello,

I have recently replaced my main very old hard drive with a KC3000 NVMe 2TB.  I use it for pretty much everything (games, programs etc.). But to this day i still use my external hard drive of 1tb for movies, photos and anything more important which I know isnt ideal. So I was thinking of replacing it by Kingston NV2 2TB or WD Blue SN570 2TB. I want to go with m.2 mostly for the convenience. I still have one more slot empty. Does this make sense? Would hard drive be in any way safer?

SSDs are pretty much superior to HDDs in every way except price. If you don't mind spending the money, go ahead and buy the SSD. You'll still have that 1TB external hard drive for other stuff after you move all your movies and such to the new drive, so there are no possible downsides in your scenario.

Hard drives are not really safer. It's just cheaper for higher capacity. If anything, it could be argued a SSD is "safer" due to no moving parts that could fail.

If your SSD can survive at least 1 month, chances are, it will last for years. Especially if you don't write on it all the time.

A hard drive on the other hand, could fail any day due to moving parts in it. But like a SSD, if it survives the first month or so, it will likely survive at least a few years. Unless you bang it good.

Just go with whichever solution you prefer. Personally I would go all solid state storage these days.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x16GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Bazzite

Thanks, I also heard that cheaper SSDs are DRAMless. I think its also the case with these two. Would that have any bad impact in my case?

In your case, since this is going to be a secondary drive and it looks like you're in the "budget" price range, I wouldn't worry too much about DRAM. It's nice to have, but in my experience has pretty minimal impact on the drive itself (write times will be slower, if you're going to regularly be putting movies on here you might want to take that into account). Between the two drives you're considering, I would probably go with the WD Blue.

Ok, thanks. I will probably go with the WD one
