3.5mm is standard for audio jacks on headphones nowadays

I think your english is a little blurry. Headphones and speakers are 2 different type of things. 2,5mm and 3,5mm in analog audio plug context look identical, only the size is different. Which one to use of course depends on the jack itself, they're not interchangeable. You could however use a proper adapter, for example 2,5mm to 3,5mm or vice versa.

 

Are you asking because you want to build your own custom system?
