There should be a way to limit traffic to other devices, ill respond to my comment if i find any way to with your router.

Ok there is a function called bandwidth limit

Do you know how to access your router first of all and what the admin logins are? if not they are normally on the bottom of your router ps (DO NOT SEND A PHOTO SO ANYONE CAN ACCESS YOUR NETWORK). Then once you are in go to your routers ip (if on windows open command prompt and do ipconifig, not sure for macos).

This is not exactly necessary. SQM is insanely useful. You can hammer down my internet connection with as many P2P connections or downloads/uploads you want, I would never even notice it.

OpenWRT capable router is all you need.

Was just looking at some basic Archer D50 info and while it does look like it has some bandwidth control features, it doesn't look like it has any form of QoS (Quality of Service).

I've always found on bandwidth limited service a modem with a good QoS implementation works wonders but I'm not an online gamer so don't have much experience with that.

Yes true but for this guy (seeming a kid) you dont want to reinstall your router os / mess with ip configs. So im trying to make it simple for him to just get it working with what he has.

That's not a lot of bandwidth to share. Someone will suffer if everyone decides to utilize the connection at the same time.

Did you look at bandwidth control in the device's manual (page 17)? Alternatively, see here.

So just to be clear: a router you didn’t pay for, on a connection you’re not paying for, and you want to rate limit everyone else?

Classy.

IMO SQM would be fine, as it merely prioritises smaller packets, but actually bandwidth limiting I agree is a bit cheeky.

Although making sure the upstream is not trying to exceed the lines capability could be good for everyone involved to reduce bufferbloat.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7
