Connecting GPU to laptop

Hello, I have this old laptop that has a gtx960m inside it and I thought it would be better to upgrade the gpu instead of getting a new laptop. I watched tutorials online and they all say connect to m.2 or to thunderbolt. In my laptop I've already used the m.2 slot but there is 1 broken sata 2.5 inch drive slot, what other options do I have?
