Dell Dimension 4700

Go to solution Solved by Needfuldoer,

Those OEM machines from the Pentium 4 era aren't worth much. The ones selling on eBay are usually dolled up as "retro XP gaming machines". They're also peak capacitor plague, so check for any capacitors that look swollen or have crusty orange stuff on them.

Some of those Dimension towers used standard mATX motherboards (with a normal IO shield hole) and standard power supply mounting, so it might be a good sleeper PC donor case.

Hello All,

So my question isn't technical as much as general question on pricing. My in-laws where going to just throw out an old Dell computer, before even know what it was I told them I'll take it from them to clean up and see if i could use it or resell.

Once i picked it up i saw the floppy disk drive and realized it was older than i thought. I'm still going to rehab it and see if it works well. It's a Pentium 4 processor with integrated graphics.

What would you think a fair price on FB Marketplace would be if I ensure it is working. I also have the monitor and keyboard for it as well. I was thinking $25-75. But I also don't want to jip anyone at all.  Let me know what you really think.

Even if it's worth nothing i would use it or throw it on the buy nothing group for the local town as I am just very excited to work on a computer from this era and clean it up.

That's one reason I'm excited to restore it because if it would fit modern PC components I would probably just keep it just for this later on.

Thanks for the heads up on the capacitors I'll be sure to give it a thorough inspection. With it being 20 years old it's almost more of an fun rehab project than a flip for a quick buck.
