Black screen while gaming and sudden crash

Hello Forums,

I have my RTX 3070ti for a while, and I was gaming fine on it and today I experienced a weird issue only when I am gaming. As suddenly the screen disconnect and blank screen shows and I couldn't go to task manager or display anything. The only thing I can do is do a hard reset on my PC.

My drivers are up to date (536.67)

After quick troubleshooting found out this error in event viewer:

Now at first I thought it is something was due to diablo4 hotfix update but then played another game for 20-30 min and the issue came again, the different was I could see in the 2nd game fps drop to like below 5fps and then blank screen popped. I could hear the ingame music but no display.

Now I am not sure what is causing that as the only suspicion to me was windows update KB5028254 which have updates about some display settings.

Not sure if I need to do ddu or remove the update and go again?

Have anyone encountered that issue?

Interesting symptoms, upon looking for dwm exe seems like its like a pretty much windows appearence thingy like a program for windows transparency, graphical effects and such. Hmm do you have wallpaper engine? Maybe idk you've set the either frame rate or resolution too high and its causing problems. Although shouldn't be a problem since your in-game. But either way I would focus on trying finding out what is dwm and like try to find some solutions online

All I could find about dwm is generic troubleshooting like sfc scan, ddu, re-install windows...etc

But note that I never played with ingame FPS as I was playing those games with the same settings.

You might need to disable the MultiPlane Overlay MPO. It's a Windows tweak that solves such issues.

Also, what's the rest of the specs?

Latest motherboard BIOS?

Latest GPU vBIOS?

Latest SSD firmware?

Temperatures under load?

Does it happen in 3DMark, Furmark, OCCT, Prime95?

Max 75

Memory max 78

Hot spot max 86

Heaven Benchmark

Strange thing happened, when I ran EVGA precision to check fans and OC settings ant then (without tweaking any of the settings) I ran heaven bench, and it didn't failed.

Later I run couple of tests with heaven and it is still stable

My temps looks normal to me as well Max GPU was 74, memory was 78 and hotspot was 85 during the benchmark

I will do more testing and run games.

There is a newer motherboard BIOS with Agesa 1208. Agesa 120A seems not released yet for that board.
