Not all routers but most can, If not you could look if it's compatible with a custom firmware like DDWRT or Tomato.

yep.. the way i go about it when there isnt a specific AP option is just to turn basically everything off that looks like its doing something to the traffic like a firewall. generally then you want to find somewhere where you can specify to use your primary router as the gateway
