To keep itself from overheating and getting damaged as a result. As you say, some software can temporarily circumvent these limits, but at some point a hardware limit kicks in to prevent damage.

Check the laptop's cooling vents, it might have collected dust over time, so some cleaning and possibly change of thermal past might help. Cooling pads don't really help that much, especially if cool air can't get into the laptop's internals to cool GPU/CPU.

A cooling pad only helps if the laptop is regularly on a surface that blocks airflow. If it's on a flat surface like a desk, it is pointless to use one.

If it's possible, maybe the thermal paste needs to be replaced. Otherwise, beyond simply blowing out dust, there aren't any options.

my dell laptop cant get better performance on games like gta vice city

my lap specs -dell inspiron 5502

11 gen core i5-1135g7 2.40ghz 1.38ghz

8gb ram

512 ssd

2gb dedicated nvidia geforece mx330 (latest drivers)

when i run gta v it run smoothly for like 20 seconds 60fps

after 20 seconds it gets 10 to 20 fps

then i find that this gpu max temp capped at 68 celcius, why?,gpu frequency drops to 139mhz

(there are any ways to increase it )[it can temporary increase with asus gpu tweak 111]

also this fkin lap has cpu problem like gpu ,cpu frequency drops to 400mhz and cpu power drops to 8 watts

(i am using a cooling pad)[it can temporary fix with throttle stop]

please hlp me
