I've got this question about partial fractions and im wondering how to do it.

(9x^2+20x-10)/(x+2)(3x-1)

I've done long division and calculated that the equation is =

3+ (5x-4)/(x+2)(3x-1)

From this do I do

3+ (5x-4)/(x+2)(3x-1)=A(3x-1)/(x+2) + B(x+2)/(3x-1)

or this:

(5x-4)/(x+2)(3x-1)=A(3x-1)/(x+2) + B(x+2)/(3x-1)

I've worked it out, it was the latter.

Are you trying to solve for x?

Nope I trying to solve for A and B which is done by substituting x=-2 and x=1/3. I've worked it out now anyway.

You use the second one to calculate the values of A and B, but you still need to include the 3 in your final answer.

I can't believe someone had a somewhat legit math problem on these forums. Usually it's like 8-10th grade math, whereas this was like 1st year uni level.
