Updating the GPU on my 2020 build

Go to solution Solved by PDifolco,

With $750 you can get a 5800X3D and a 6750XT, which will max out 1080p

But your monitor looks pretty bad, you should upgrade it as well

My current build is as follows.

Motherboard: Asus Prime B550M-A (Wifi)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 6GB

RAM: 16GB (8GB x 2) Kingston green sticks

Storage: 1TB HDD Western Digital Blue, 250GB SSD M.2 NVMe Westernn Digital Blue SN550

PSU: EVGA 600W 80+ Bronze

Case: I don't know, some blue iBuyPower case from like 2014

Monitor: 27" AOC 1080p / 60hz

I want to update my GPU but I'm stuck between the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB and the RX 6700XT (or even the 6800XT). I'm getting a bit more RAM and a 2TB SSD (also M.2 NVMe), but that's not calculated in my budget. I have $750 (USD) to upgrade my PC and I've really only been looking at GPUs, but now I think I might be better off splitting my budget between a GPU and a CPU. Ideally, I would like to not have to upgrade anything for the next 4 years or so. I would also like to stay around $500 - $600, but $750 is my cap.

I want to "future proof" my PC as much as that's even a thing. I've heard games are going to require more VRAM and will be more CPU intensive than current games. I would like to play at 1440p, but I'm okay with keeping the 1080p monitor I have for the time being. I mostly play RPGs and strategy games, and my current setup is gread, but the main push for this upgrade is Starfield.

Thanks in advance. Happy to answer any questions.

Look at the Ryzen 5 5600 or the Ryzen 7 5700X.

Do you mean the 6750XT will max out at 1080p and won't run anything well at 1440p? I've been using the GPU benchmark from Tom's Hardware (here) to gauge relative performance (and benchmarking videos on YouTube) and even the 6700XT seems to be able to run stuff 1440p pretty well. I do not care whatsoever about upscaling, frame gen, or ray tracing if that makes a difference.

Also yes, I'm planning on upgrading my monitor but I'd rather not put the cart before the horse and get a 1440p monitor without having a 1440p-capable card.

Yep I meant it's very good at 1080p, and decent at 1440p (yet I'd recommend a 6800XT or better for that res)
