Hello Forum,

As the title says, I'm thinking about purchasing 3 drives this will be used in Raid 0 which will be a total of 3TB of storage. This will be with my SSD that is used as a boot drive. (before anyone says just get an SSD.) It will be used for my games and programs.

Would a raid 0 configuration work with a SSD caching drive?

If so what would be the best size SSD drive for this occasion

Thanks Noble

Firstly the drives that I have picked do not come in 3TB where I live.

Secondly for speed?

1 Drive is nowhere near as fast as 3 drives in raid 0

1. I know for sure that 1 SSD has better speed than 2 hard drives raid 0. I'm not sure about 3 drives raid 0 though. Just remember that with 3 drives, that's triple the failure rate too. Good luck with that.

2. Why do you need speed? If you really need speed with some really hardcore video editting or something. Just get a bigger SSD, it is really better than whatever HDD out there, it. I personally don't use up all the space in my 128GB SSD.

3. When you shop for HDDs just remember that bigger is really better in bed speed. 1TB WD Green has write speed ~60-70MB/s, 1TB WD Black ~ 80-90MB/s. But the cheapest 2TB Hitachi 5900 rpm (just a little more expensive than the 1TB Black) gives me ~105-110MB/s. That's my personal experience.
