NVME Thermal issue?

Go to solution Solved by Ryoho,

Swapping the NVME to the slot on the right seems to fix the temperature issue.

Thanks everyone for the help

Hello,

Temps of my WD BLACK SN770 2TB are really high, not sure if its a sensor issue.

It's installed in an Asrock X670e Taichi, slot M2_3.

I have a Silicon Power 2TB UD90 installed in the slot below and its nowhere that hot.

Seem pretty hot. Is the drive located over the GPU? If yes, then try putting in the lower slot to see if it gets as hot. Seem pretty hot compared to the other drive, and comparing to this review:

Both NVME's are behind the GPU (RTX 4090).

I see. Maybe try it in the open slot above the GPU. Might need a bit more airflow?

Also make sure you have thermal pads and have removed the plastic film if any under the NVME heatsinks.

Yes that is way too hot.

My NVMEs dont go over 40-50c

Yeah i've removed the plastic film, maybe its not making proper contact.

Slot above is occupied by a WD BLACK SN850X.

Temps are fine on that one.

Really want to try and find a solution before pulling my pc apart.

Are you saving the top slot for something else or is it empty? Try put the hot drive in that if airflow dosent help

Its strange to me that two nvmes under the 4090 have such different temps it indicates that maybe the SN 770 is either incorrectly installed or maybe an issue with it or some sort.

You'll have to test it out find out.. You can't undervolt the SSD, if it's running fine without throttling, then I would just use it as is.

Terrible temps.

Top slot would be the fastest though.

I'm using  https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004192547398.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.25.4d141802CUDZQV

That equalises my Adata S70 Blade temps with Smasung 980 Pro - idle 4, load below 60C.

But I guess only applicable in the slot above GPU.

The temperatures between different NVMe SSDs vary alot it seems though.

Pax vobiscum

Top slot is already occupied with a SN80X.

I wouldnt let that 100c NVMe sit at that temp for any longer than you need.

One little bit of information when i was fighting HDD temps of over 50c The Western Digital dashboard was the program that kept the temps high as i was using that software to montior the temps of all my drives (i know your not). Once i stopped using that software (turned off at startup) the temps dropped to normal. Ive uninstalled it now.

But i noticed whatever drive the software was reporting on was bassically heating up the drive even the NVMEs

Same temps before and after installing the WD Software.

Drive Temperature 2 is the ASIC controller according to HWiNFO64, not sure if that matters.

Last NVME slot isn't used, wanted to fill the 2 slots under GPU so i wouldn't have to take the GPU out anymore.

You might need a lot more airflow over the GPU to take away the hot air and not let the motherboard/drives soak that heat up...

62C at idle(?) is still too high.

Was running Crystal Disk Mark, the 62c is the ASIC controller which seems to run hotter.

Idle is around 55c on the ASIC Controller and 36c on the NVME itself.

Room temp is around 28-30c right now.
