Hello all,

I am beginning my first build and I'm not really sure where to begin. I'll list what I am planning on using the computer for and go from there i guess..

-Multi-tasking is key: I would like to be able to watch netflix and play a game simultaneously without any lag either way

-3D software such as Siemens NX or AutoCad for a future 3D printer I hope to buy

-Two monitors, with the capability for three in the future. I currently have an ASUS VS228 LCD Monitor

-Plenty of room for future upgrades once I have more money to improve, so i'd prefer to get a very good starting point. I'm assuming that would be the motherboard, so I should probably go very high quality on that part.

-Quiet case: I've been looking into the Fractal Design R4 Case

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

I can't play a game without watching something on the side. I'm so used to it that just gaming is almost boring.

Go for a full ATX Case, I believe there is a Fractal Define R4. Not too mention, I recommend AMD CPU's if you are going to be doing a lot of tasks that rely heavily on parelleism, or Integer performance. Not too mention if any of your softwares has OpenCL capabilities you should swoop that up with an AMD GPU, however on the other hand, if you want a good balance of both Integer and Floating Point performance, at the sacrifice of parrelelism, then a 3770k/4770 is a good option. If you want something with sheer horsepower get a 780TI if you are focused more towards just gaming, HOWEVER get a Titan, or a Titan black considering that it has double point percision and will help you out significantly with auto cad. You need to design your workstation/gaming system around the software almost these days. You also want to consider the overhead of different programming models, and whether or not Mantle will be something that you will benefit from. So here is what you need to do:

Look at your software(Google), and see if they utilize OpenCL, and how many cores or the "affinity" of the application. That can give us a good judgement of what you will want to buy.

I don't really have a set budget, but if i had to throw out a number 1500-2000. Also, I've been looking at the GTX 780 superclocked. Any suggestions of which GTX 780 I should get?

ASUS is a good bet, I have an ASUS GTX 760 DirectCUII card. It runs really quiet, and it can overclock well.

i5 4670K, GTX 780 with 16GB RAM on a Z97 board, you can go Broadwell next generation and add a second 780 if you ever need one.

It fits in the Fractal Design R4, RAM/GPU brand is personal preference.

I'm liking the GTX 780 with the R4 case. And the i5 4670K sounds good. But can you give me more information about the Z97 board? Also, what would the major advantage of two 780s be?

Also if you are not aware PC Part Picker makes it easy on you: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/

Also I haven't looked too much at the Z97 chipset however, Logan has a video covering most of it. However in basic Z97's biggest upgrade is in Data transfer speeds and support for NGFF, so if you plan on utilizing those features in the future than it may be very valuable for you.

A single 780 for now, it's high end and not overkill, and if you're going to a higher resolution a second 780 would be a really good upgrade to handle it.

You're going surround so the extra vRam and horsepower in general would be really good for your experience.
