Hi guys,

Just looking for a little assistance. The other day I put a basic PC together for my Dad.

Core i3 4340

MSI H87M-E33

4GB Generic DDR3

Samsung Evo 120GB SSD

Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

The PC seems to run fine except for the fact that exactly every 30 minutes (this has been timed) it loses power and switches off. Not a normal windows shutdown, it just loses power instantly. Any ideas what this could be? I've switched out the PSU and it still seems to do it. Going to try change the RAM stick and have a look around the BIOS for any odd settings.

Any help very much appreciated.

Cheers.

Is it plugged into any power strips or anything? Try plugging it into a different outlet and see if that is an issue. For the most part, it's just process of elimination until something works. Check out the problems and reports section to see if there are any software/hardware issues causing the shutdown.

@MLopez

As long as your PSU and the rest of your components are working, which sounds to be the case considering it stays on, there's a roughly 90% chance it's due to Overheating.

Check your temperatures. Keep an eye out for any spikes, especially closer to the 30 minute mark. Watch your CPU very closely, but also pay attention to your Core temp, Motherboard temps, GPU, etc.

You can use HWMonitor to monitor all of your temperatures.

Report back here with your findings so we can continue diagnosing your issue further.

And although overheating is most likely the culprit, there can certainly be other factors. However, monitor all of your temperatures first and let me know your findings.

Good Luck~

Ok update:

After another 30 minutes the power still cut out. Keep in mind this is happening EXACTLY on 30 minutes, to the second, every time. Very confusing. Have swapped the RAM into the other available DIMM, and the SSD is now in SATA1 port instead of SATA2 like it was before.

Hi everyone,

Decided to go back to the store and chat to the staff there, who also had no idea. I purchased a new, different model motherboard as I thought this would be the best place to start, and hooray, she works now. I'll take back the faulty motherboard tomorrow for a refund.

Thanks to those who assisted.

I will do the best I can to help in any way. However I am not all knowing and realize that I can be wrong.
