Ram speed

I have an i7 4770, 12 gb of ddr3 1333 mhz memory, (bizarre setup 2x4gb ram, 2x2gb ram)

If i were to get 16gb of ram, what would be the max speed that i could get?
i've seen some people use 2133 mhz ram with it, but i dont really understand how since it only supports 1600 mhz.

But yeah in Haswell they can be a bit hit or miss and if youre buying used, going 1600mhz is going to be a more surefire hit on it.
