I recently upgraded to AM5, utilizing the 7800X3D. I slapped on my EK Elite 360 AIO I had been using in my previous build with a 5900x. I feel it's a little overkill with this chip, especially since all I do is game and watch youtube. I'm running a CO of -30 and don't really ever see the CPU get above 55c in any game. I'm just curious to compare with y'all who have this chip and are using tower coolers. I haven't air cooled since the early 2000's. I know they've come a long way.

The 7800X3D is an efficient card and its performance to power draw and heat are greatly improved over the initial 7800x release.

It will run perfectly fine on air and one can go for good and relatively inexpensive coolers from around 50USD.

I have always liked Noctua and Bequiet Tower cooler but those are instatly in the 100USD range.

If that AIO you are running is still in good condition I would simply leave things as they are right now. The upside being that if over time the AIO should ever fail you do not need to worry about an expensive solution to solve the problem.

If you do not want to use the AIO and your local 2nd hand market is healthy you could sell it and pick up an air cooler and not suffer any penalty in costs. Might even have a few dollars left over for a couple of cold beers.

I could run my 5800X3D semi passively in my current setup. I only have a fan on it because it was an expensive triple pack and I have to use at least one lol 😄

But if I just run the stock Torrent fan config, it is eerily quiet..
