Bought a "surround sound" speaker set and a subwoofer/control box. It takes AUX Line in and RCA R/W as inputs. It has 5 RCA output jacks for the 5 speakers. I'm wondering how to get the best possible sound quality out of it? Im open to ideas like an internal sound card for my PC and AUX to RCA adapters or a new central box + sub, etc

If you can list what parts you have. This is currently very broad, like saying "I bought a car with 4 wheels" - there's different models of cars going back from the 1920s through the modern day.

As a rule of thumb
1. Start with HDMI if it's an option
2. If there's no HDMI, then SPDIF is the next best thing.
3. Aux and RCA are the same for all intents and purposes

When I went overboard on my own desktop PC for sound I had one HDMI cable from my video card feeding into a TV I used as a monitor and I had HDMI ARC from the TV feeding into an AVR with 12 speakers.

Yeah this is not a true surround sound speakers. You would be better off with active stereo speakers or if you really want surround then at least the Logitech z607.

At least to answer your question, you can buy RCA <-> AUX adapter and connect the aux head into mobo's green slot.

I'm just going to get three AUX to RCA Audio adptrs and use the Mobo IO aux ports for an improvised 5.1 surround sound system

plug two speakers into each adapter and then one adapter in RS-Out, one in L-Out and then the 3rd adapter plugged to the sub (with center and sides) to the CS-Out

Ehh... just to clarify what I meant when getting an adapter, the RCA side goes into your sub's INPUT red and white slot, and the 3.5mm jack goes into your motherboard's green L-Out.

Again, it's not a true surround speaker system and if you simply try to connect speaker RCA cable directly into mobo it won't work. They need more power to amplify which is coming from your subwoofer's power jack.

These mobo aux plugs only provide like milliwatts of power which is enough for some headphones, whereas speakers need watts which is much more power.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to breakdown every detail why your idea won't work. (Well, it may work but at a very low volume...)

Then will a PCI E 1x sound card work? Like this one?: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VFND7TL/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A4IWNATC64MMF&psc=1

go from aux out to the RCA on the unit.

As a warning, what you have will attempt to split 2 channel stereo to 5 channels. The effect can be pretty good but it's not going to be perfect.

As hinted at, for most people, focusing on TWO good stereo speakers first and properly positioning them (tweeters pointed towards your ears with nothing in the way) you end up better off overall.

Getting a sound card or similar will do absolutely nothing for you in this case. The "surround sound" system is a 2 channel "non-surround sound" splitter. Also your motherboard supports 5 channel audio out so... ehh

You might be able to buy a handful of RCA cables and go directly from your computer into the other speakers.

Not something I've fiddled with very much since I went straight to an AVR (Audio Video Receiver) which is the "right" way.

Won't change a thing as you'll run the same problem as mobo's jacks.

Forget trying to hack 5.1 RCA jacks onto it. Either 1. connect RCA INPUT to green L-Out and let your speakers emulate 5.1 surround, 2. Return your speakers for true surround sound speakers or 3. Return for good quality active stereo speakers.
