Hello, i have an A320m Pro-VH motherboard and all the other required parts to build a pc except for a cpu. I'll buy a Ryzen 5 4500 cpu for my build. But i read it somewhere that to be able to use this cpu on my motherboard i have to update my bios. I bought the card about a year ago and i have never used it before so i haven't updated my bios yet. I don't own any other am4 cpu so i can't use that cpu update my bios. Also none of my friends use amd cpus 😞 .

So is there any way i can update my bios with the cpu i'll buy. Or do i even need to update it?.

I would just update it anyway since it can bring stability, security and even performance improvments

Also its always good to have the newest thing right?

The Ryzen 5 4500 launched over a year ago, so as long as that motherboard hasn't been sitting on a shelf for over a year, and was manufactured within the last year, then it should have a BIOS compatible with the Ryzen 5 4500 already installed.

Basically, motherboards ship with the latest BIOS installed, so if the motherboard was shipped from the factory in, say, December 2021, then it probably won't have a compatible BIOS installed. If it instead shipped in June 2022, then it should.

I'd say the odds are in your favor, but it's not guaranteed.

Just ask a shop to update it for you

Though i would instead reccomend buying a cheap ch341a bios programmer alongside some dupont female - female jumpers to flash the bios via the jspi1 header located below the cpu socket, pinout can be found here, just match the pins between the ch341a and the jspi1 header and you are good to flash, main advantages being you never ever have to worry about bricking your bios anymore because you can simply just flash the bios externally, and instead of the shitty a320 bios that wont let you overclock you can flash the b350m pro vh plus bios instead (both boards share the same layout) so you can run that 4500 at 4.5ghz allcore instead of a slow 4ghz ish allcore

I had a similar situation, when picking parts for a new computer, and the Computer Shop Service updated the bios for my new MB for free.
