Budget (including currency):

Country: New Zealand

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: World of Warcraft, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 / Warzone 2

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

So I'm planning on changing out my motherboard and all components in my pc, the only thing that I won't be changing is the fans.

These are the items I am looking to buy and just wanting to know if they will all work together well / if there are alternatives that might be better. I used PCpartpicker and they are all compatible together but just wanting some advice (please be kind lol). Thank you. Also if you can recommend some good M.2 drives that will go with the motherboard would be a bonus.

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B650E-E Gaming WiFi

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB (2x16)

It sounds like a good build, tha parts should mesh well. You could consider getting a 7900XT instead to save some money and lower the power draw, but that is about it.

Overpriced to shit just buy a cheaper board like the b650(m) aorus elite ax, b650-p/tomahawk wifi, or the b650 tuf gaming wifi

Same thing for rams, overpriced to shit, idk speed and timings but as an example with that particular heatsink design you are only gonna get 5200c40 trash when at the same price theres 6000c32 hynix a dies that will obliterate them in overclocking. Look for 5600c30 or 6000c32 (no point going lower cl, same hynix a die) or minimum 5600c32/6000c36-40 (hynix m die), both are futureproofed but m die only clocks to ~7200 whilst a die clocks to 8000+ so better for futureproofing your ram if you wanna ride out the enitre ddr5 generation with 1 kit

If your games dont benifit from the extra cache prefer the 7700 since you can just clock it to 5.4-5.5 allcore, if you want the best of both worlds look for a board that supports async eclk like the b650e aorus master, x670e-a/f, b650e taichi, etc. if you wanna get ripped off with an expensive board atleast make it somewhat worth it

As for cooler choice peerless assassin/phantom spirit (se) 120 or ag/ak620

As for ssd choice whatevers the cheapest dram gen3 you can find (ex mushkin tempest, silicon power a80, etc.) Or a somewhat decent dramless gen4 like the nv2, make sure you look at reviews for performance cause there are some that look good on a specsheet but perform like ass. also dont overspend for useless branding, all the components (dram, flash, controller, etc.) Are made by the same few manufacturers, same thing for rams

But are you sure there isnt anything you can salvage? Usually you can salvage the storage, psu or case maybe even the cooler

Thank you for all of your info, I know these seem pricey but just want to actually build a good computer for once. I am going to keep my same PSU (which is Corsair 1000w) I do have a m.2 but was thinking of possible changing it but will more than like just buy an extra for a boot drive. And I will be keeping all my current case fans / case but I definately need a new GPU as my one is low end (only a RX 570 4GB lol).

Those parts do not do anything for your build you are simply wasting money on garbage, like atleast go up a tier and get async eclk, otherwise the boards i mentioned are more than adequate for your build and will be futureproof considering how overbuilt the vrms are on literally all the b650 boards

The rams are even more useless, its the same shit but different heatsink thats all, why overpay for garbage when theres far superior rams with superior ics for the same price?

Thank you, I have decided to go with the TOMAHAWK mobo now. And I already have a really good case and 1000w psu that I will be keeping, sorry if I wasn't clear about that.

It's alright I didn't take any offense to it. I'm good at the putting computers together part of things but when it comes to picking parts I tend to suck. I just saw the parts in my original message and thought they looked good and that's why I decided to come here to one see if they would all work well together and two get other peoples opinions of things that might be better.

Why? 1kW is wayyyy too much for a build like this, I would go with a Corsair RM850x or so instead (if the price is okay, that is).

Oh yeah I already have a Corsair iCUE 5000x that I am currently using so should have more than enough room.

Yea, 850W would be plenty for this build. I tend to recommend just going ahead with 1000W at this price point out of habit. It also tends to provide extra head room for future upgrades/potential power spikes, runs quieter since it's far off from max wattage.

Yeah I originally only had a 550w PSU and got a 1000w only about a month ago so I can semi future proof and have it for my new build. It's usually always better to have more than you need than less.

I will give you that, you can just run a semi-passive 1.2kW unit if you want near silent operation. I would stick to smaller PSUs though, they tend to be smaller, cheaper and I kind of doubt that we will continue the trend of adding power somewhat soon, giving the rising energy prices.

Ugh, future proofing. It does make sense to a point when it comes to PSUs, but I would not pay 1.3x for some upgrade you might do in the distant future.

Yeah I understand that, when I saw the PSU I got it wasn't that expensive (at least to me) and it was on sale so I decided why not. I ordered my mobo yesterday and it already arrived this morning. One less thing on my list.

He's saying that there are only 3 major RAM manufacturers and they have quality tiers known as DIES.   While he's a little aggressive with his take, and needs to stop unintentionally making the person he's trying to help feel like shit about what they want, he has some valid points.  Though I do not think his statement about the heastink design and RAM speed comment.

As long as you realize what you're buying in truth, feel free to get whatever you want.  If you know X performs worse than Y, and you still want Y.... go nuts.  Your cash.

Thank you very much. I understand he was a bit aggressive but I didn't take offense or anything by it so have no issues. I just want to make sure I'm not spending more money than I need to if there is another option that performs practically the same.

I mean, you SHOULD be buying the Gigabyte B650 AORUS Pro AX, but you do you 🙂

I think your motherboard and RAM are overpriced but I was never an ASUS fan nor Corsair fan.  I like the price of the Gigabyte boards and their feature sets, plus I usually stick with G. Skill RAM.  But you want RGB RAM, so I'm hands off there (way too biased).

Oh yeah in regards to my original post I just saw those options and thought they might be good and that's why I came here to ask for opinions. I have already changed a few things thanks to suggestions made here so I am grateful. As for the RAM I don't have to have RGB but it would be nice lol and I do currently have G.Skill in my current PC but it's only 16GB and DDR4. I will see what other G.Skill is available for me and go from there.
