Looking for new headphones.

Go to solution Solved by Guest Kloaked,

You already have I think two really good choices in your post. However, the ATH-M50 (non-X revision) could be found on Amazon for a bit cheaper if you don't mind not having a removable cable. You still get a 3.5mm to 1.4" adapter on the non-X revision.

These two that I've personally been looking at possibly purchasing are worth looking at: Beyerdynamic 990 open back headphones that have a bigger sound stage than closed back headphones; Beyerdynamic 770 closed back headphones.

Hey guys, I'm looking for some headphones and while I don't have an external Amp/DAC yet I'm planning to get one within a month or two.

Uses : I'll be using these for music a little bass heavy, a bit of gaming, Teamspeak and the occasional movie.

Price : Due to location it's a little tricky but I'd prefer to keep it under $230 NZ preferably from computerlounge.co.nz or globally shipped from amazon US Keep it under $150 US Before shipping is applied.

I'm currently looking at HD 558's or ATH-M50X's which are both at the top of by budget, if you guys can recommend something a little cheaper or help me chose between the two that'd be much appreciated.

Thanks for the response and links but after hearing various thought's I think I'll probably go with the  M50X's

Beyerdynamic custom one pros on Massdrop are good and shipping to NZ is 22 USD

So they are, thank you for that, I may stick with the M50X's the shipping will be quicker and they look a bit less bulky.

Thanks, I had completely forgotten about them, after a bit more consideration I'll probably go with the M50X's, the removable cable is a big plus in my book.

ATH m50's might be cheaper in some places.

M50's I can save about $30 but lose the removable cable which is one of the things that attracted me to the X's, I think I'll go with the X's

Edit, Something went wrong with multi-quoting.

The custom one pros sound much better than the m50 and are a lot more comfortable.

unfortunately they're just expensive enough that I'll get hit with import tax.
