Discovered missing insulator on CPU/GPU PSU cable after troubleshooting completely dead PC after installing new GPU

CPU, Memory, VGA, Boot - usually in that order as that's the order the Power-on Self-Test (POST) goes through. Generally these "Idiot Lights" will give a hint.

 

Are the Fans spinning up on the GPU and/or LEDs on the GPU Lighting up?

No, the PC will not boot with the GPU in, so nothing lights up, it's really strange.  The second I take it out, everything goes back to normal.  Yeah I know where the LED code lights are, but there's nothing beyond the typical booting configuration & you get the white light at the end, which I thought was the all clear?  I've got an MSI board in my current PC & that's what I remember.  I'll just Google it to double check.

Oh I see what you were saying, yeah the idiot lights all go thru their normal start up & that's all normal.  The PC went to sleep after ten minutes on inactivity too.  So without that gpu in it, it's working perfectly.  Plug it back it, & nada.  I was under the impression a PC would normally still post w/a bad gpu, you just couldn't run anything graphically intensive?

No.  Motherboard is MSI MPG z790 DDR5, & the GPU is an Aero 4070ti.  It's all basically brand spanking new.

So with the GPU installed what happens when you power on?

 

The normal sequence is:

 

Fans Spin Up and LEDs on the motherboard light up

System Status LEDs go from CPU, Mem, VGA, Boot then turn off

At that point you should have video out

When I press the power button, nothing happens.  No lights anywhere.  I take the gpu out, & everything powers up & works exactly as it had before.

OK - With the GPU removed clear the CMOS by hitting F6 in the BIOS, save (cleared) BIOS Settings, then reboot. While your at it note what the current BIOS version is please.

Is it the Black (Carbon) or White (Edge) Motherboard?

Is the GPU the AERO OC or the AERO OC V2 (it will be on the part Number on the Box)

LOL - I had that bite me in the ass a few days ago. Was at work and in a hurry to get home. Went to shutdown my Laptop to take home with me and had to wait 35 minutes for an update to finish.

I'm not even sure what to say about what's happening now.  I've never seen anything like this.  So I go to restart it, & on the monitor it goes thru the restart process, including the screen going black for a second, then it "reboots" & I have to sign back into windows.  But the computer actually never goes to sleep or restarts.  What tha?  I can't get it to go into bios that way, & the delete method isn't working.  I'm going to try to restart it manually & plug the keyboard into a different port.

That's normal - you either have to Shift Restart, go into Advanced, and Tell Windows to Boot into the BIOS (UEFI) or Power Down then restart.

I Assumed that as you have a white build and the Aero

It should show the BIOS Version in an info section or somewhere or other. I'm used to GigaByte BIOSes.

Before we try the BIOS Update ...

 

Unplug any cables from the iGPU (some motherboards will disable the GPU if a cable is plugged into the iGPU)

 

Install the GPU un-seating then re-seating ALL power connectors - at the Power Supply, at the PCIe to Dongle.

 

Plug a Display into the GPU and try a boot.
