Dual GPU Bug/Issue (4070&3060)

Go to solution Solved by OhYou_,

sell the 3060 and use the 4070 for one and the intel igpu for the other

I recently bought a 4070 (because I hate myself) to run with my 3060 for dual monitors. I am aware nvidia doesn’t really support SLI anymore I just wanted a GPU per monitor but it caused random quirks like taking longer to start (MSI debug light sits on orange for 30 seconds to a min). Also it had overall made some software applications more buggy/glitchy. I have a MSI MAG Z590 Tomahawk WIFI motherboard, nvidia 3060 and 4070, Intel 11900k processor, Corsair rm1000x psu, 32Gb of Corsair DDR4 vengeance RAM, 1 crucial ssd , 2 sea gate hdd’s, NZXT cpu cooler, and an AOC and DELL display with my OS being windows 11 Pro insiders edition release 25352.1 zn_release. I am unaware if this is a motherboard setting issue or simply something with nvidia software but any help would be appreciated or information would be appreciated.

Why are you using a second GPU to run a second monitor? Modern GPUs are more than capable of running 2 monitors at the same time. You should only need more than 1 if you are actually out of ports because you're running 5+ monitors.

Because I like HDMI, and I run high stress games (cyberpunk 2077) whilst having a lot of wallpaper engine things on my seconds monitor so less load on the 4070 VRAM which is already trash.

I do a lot of things on my computer I have a lot of things running while playing games (SQL server, background applications Which require the 11900k single thread capabilities) and I like the ability to do so while having good thermals etc. I am not asking how to make my pc better I am asking if this is a fixable issue or not and if not that is fine. But thank you for the suggestion.

Just FYI, the lesser card is most likely doing NOTHING but passing trough the monitor connection.
You are only introducing more issues by doing this.
I have 3 monitors on a mere 1060 6GB with 0 issues and i can play all games. (only center monitor, i know the lack of power on my card hehehe)
Your arguments hold nothing to the trouble you introduce by going this route.

I would higly advise AGAINST using 2 graphics cars in 1 PC.
Anyhting goes wrong with your system and the first tip is to remove the 2nd card.

Its worth more in another PC or in your wallet in the form of money. 😄

ps, i run rainmeter, lively and youtube at the time im starting a game and it just works. (your setup might trow up errors even).

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

I see so even if the 3060’s inside the pc and only hooked up to one monitor the 4070(or whatever the pc decides ig) will do the processing to send to the 3060, rendering it useless?

that is usually the case with windows.

you can assign 3d to the 3060 on a per program basis.

Unless specifically setup otherwise then yes.

(but im not 100% sure tho)
Maybe others have more concrete answers.

I see, I’ll let this forum marinate for a few more hours and see what people say (I don’t mind changing BIOS/ using OC settings whatever) I just know there’s a 50/50 chance there’s an answer to this and I would love to be able to run it smoothly. But I completely understand what you’re saying and if there is no answer I’ll end up replacing my rx580 in my other pc with the 3060 lol. But thanks for the help!

You can get DP to HDMI cables for very little money. And a wallpaper engine is such a minor use of system resources for a 4070 that it is effectively not a thing.

Try it out with just 1 card. If you actually get worse performance, please tell me to sit down first, because I'll probably faint from the shock. Your experience with a single GPU in this case should only be an improvement.

Oh you’re totally right 😂, I have the adapter and ran it w my 3060 and I guarantee it would cause less bugs. But I’m doing this for fun/learning (ima computer sci major) and let me clarify by bugs, my games run amazing it’s just random things. I decided to post this because while I was doing hw the entire display froze besides the windows home bar and sometimes it will lag if I do a lot of things in unison. I am aware it is completely my fault for pushing the systems out’ve its norms though 😂
