Hey, so I made my own computer for the first time about 3 years ago? I've upgraded the graphics card twice since then and gotten an SSD but other than that everything is the same as 3 years ago - I'm due for an upgrade!

My motherboard's a Gigabyte Z68X-UD4-B3, Intel 2600k and I have a GTX 660Ti. It plays everything pretty well but I feel it's time to get a new mobo, CPU combo but I have no idea what to go with.

I'd just like some help with that and it would be much appreciated as my birthday's coming up, just graduated College and I'm ready to spoil myself! Let me know any info you need from me on preferences..figure that'd be easier than writing a wall of text, thanks :)

Just to make things clear: --You have money to blow and don't care about an actual tangible performance increase?

This belongs in the New Builds and Planning section. I'm moving the thread.

Okay sorry, I was reading the forums and saw someone else asking for build help in this sub-forum, I'll remember in future.

I do want a performance increase as games now are starting to be sub 60fps at 1080p for me. I have an 120hz monitor and I'd like to take advantage of it again in newish titles. I'm just assumming upgrading my 3 year old mobo/CPU to something new will automatically be a lot better performance wise and feature set wise so I didn't bother explaining further. I feel like my money went the distance with having this combo for 3 years and I want to make sure whatever I end up getting will do that for me for the next few years.

Upgrading your cpu/motherboard would likely do little to increase your gaming performance. Adding another 660 Ti for sli or getting a more powerful graphics card will make a more tangible performance increase. An oc'ed 2600k is still solid today.

I've always strayed away from SLi because I assumed only a certain amount of titles fully support it? Also how much bang for my buck would it be to just sell my 660 and get a 700 series? Would it be better than 2x 660?

Depends on how much you can sell your 660 Ti for. There's no 700 series gpu that consistently outperforms a 660 Ti sli. A 660 Ti sli is still faster than a 780 Ti. Most games that need more performance than a single 660 Ti should support sli. This isn't a rule but more of just a pattern.

I have a 850W Seasonic PSU..I don't know the model but I know it's Silver rated? Is that enough for a 660Ti SLi?

More than enough. You could run the system off of a decent 650w.

Just upgrade your GPU, the CPU is good enough, you won't see much if any of a performance increase if you upgrade to haswell

I was also looking to upgrade for the new features of some mobos and buying a new CPU would've just been needed as I would assume it'd be a different socket.

Okay perfect, thanks eh
