and if i buy the 290 is it better then my sli 760s?

If you already have the 760's the 760's are better. But the 290 is best if your thinking about 760 SLI

Incorrect. For Raw fps the 760's will win. Also an r9 290x has 2816 shaders and the r9 290 has 2560. Also the r9 290 comes at 947mhz stock and thr r9 290x at a ghz.

i got 2 Asus 760 DCUii running sli rig and my dad has sli hawks in his rig we got them while theey were on discount

 

the 290 is for a friends birthday present its ether i buy the 290 with the discount coupon or i get 1 more 760 hawk to match the extra hawk my dad bought

 

and pack both in as 1 present..

 

and dont say im generous -.- he gave my  mom a part of his liver to save my mom

The 290 is very close to the 290x performance, so it's not worth buying the 290x unless the price difference is very small.

760's in SLI will beat a single 290, people claiming that a single 290 "beats 760 sli any day" simply does not know what they are talking about. You won't find direct comparison benchmarks, but the best you can do is compare what benchmarks are available. Even at a higher resolution, 2560x1440, the extra VRAM on the 290 does not help it beat 760's in SLI.
