Currently running a GTX 1080 GPU paired with an Intel Core i7-10700K. Looking to do a GPU upgrade. The most demanding game I play is the new COD Warzone 2.0. My monitor is a 38" Ultra-Wide running 60Hz. Not looking to replace the monitor, so I'm fully aware I'm limiting myself from an FPS perspective. But I have noticed the 1080 struggling a bit lately, for example when I played Atomic Heart my FPS dropped to 45fps, which even for a 60Hz monitor is terrible. So looking for something budget friendly but with a bit more power while also not forcing me into a new PSU. I have a 750W PSU, and am looking at an RTX 3060 Ti. Any thoughts on whether this would be a decent choice of upgrade? Any other suggestions?

Anything BUT the 3060. God... so many people call that thing for the trash it is, and still the masses buy it... RX 6650XT, RX 6700XT, RX 6750XT .. .all of them way better choice than that piece of sh*t, especially for COD which is noticeably an AMD gpu game.

For $379 after a $20 discount. Much cheaper than 3060Ti while still kicking the snot out of it pretty much everywhere aside from spiderman.

For the same money as 3060Ti you can even find a non-XT 6800...

But i have a question - why people fall for that BS marketing ?!?!? i mean a GPU 2 classes above for the same price and for some reason they still look at the 3060 crap. Why ? Serious question btw.

For the same price it's not even funny anymore.

The only time to consider a 3060 GPU is if it's $200 or less.

Buying an 8GB card, albeit a powerful one like the RTX 3060 Ti, is NOT advisable, as newer and newer games love bigger VRAM buffer. Also, I'd like to reiterate, WZ loves AMD cards, and best to get a 6700 XT/6750 XT just because of the 12GB VRAM, you'd not know when and what games need that extra 4GB of VRAM buffer (over 8GB cards). Even saw an RX 6700 XT going for around 350USD, which is a good deal.

Just to demonstrate how much VRAM is used, not allocated (as shown by MSI AB, I took a screenshot of DSR running at 3840x1080, max graphics + RTAO, and it can, at times, use more than 10GB. I'd snipped the screenshot as being 32:9, it'd be a tad long, under 'MEM', you'd see 11.2GB being allocated, and ~10.05GB being used.

Thanks for the input! After reading this, and doing a bit more research I decided to just bite the bullet and bought a 6800XT with 16GB of VRAM. Not as budget friendly as I hoped, but certainly a couple hundred cheaper than a 3080... And with the huge VRAM buffer my hope is that this card will stay relevent for atleast another 6 years...

What PSU do you have? That is, brand and model, and how old is it? IF it's too old, take into account that capacitors and basically the components age and degrade over time. The really good quality one lasts a long time though. I have a Seasonic X-1250 that I'd gotten about 10 years ago, still doing well in my older gaming rig which I'd be selling.

It's one of the best deals you can get right now aside from the 6950XT, but it's some 50% + on that budget so be very happy. It's an excellent GPU for 1440p and nothing in that price range comes close to that performance except maybe a 2nd had RTX 3080, but there you take the risk with ex-miner GPU and small or big, it's a risk nonetheless.
