I'm happy with my PC now well once I get my X4 760K I will be and it should hold me off till I can afford to go with an i5. Just out of curiosity do you think $500 is a good amount to save up for cpu/motherboard combo or could I go a little less?

Those athlons do offer a really good value! For $500 it really depends what you are doing, if it is just gaming I think you are really over spending. I would never spend more than 150 on a motherboard and the 240 for an unlocked i5, as most z97 motherboards overclock almost equally. Unless you really need all the features that expensive motherboards bring, then I highly doubt there is really a need to. For $500 though you could even get an i7 4770k and a cheap z97 motherboard.

It should be fine, however for a couple bucks more you can get :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128714&cm_re=z97-_-13-128-714-_-Product

which is a really good motherboard. however, I wouldn't go too extreme with overclocking as it power delivery is not the best.

It is cheaper, and it has a 3 year warranty instead of the asrock one.

I plan on upgrading to the Athlon X4 760K but I have to get the video card first since the Athlon doesn't have integrated graphics

the 760k is a great cpu. Go for it.
