After release of 4070, 6950XT price drops, 6700 XT still best value?

Go to solution Solved by SebSebastian,

It depends what titles you are planning on playing and what do you want to do with the gpu, i have the rx 6700 xt and im more than happy as it performs great in 2K
Also if you dont plan on playing 4K it isnt worth going higher as games will keep it the same for a while and only the resolutions will up

edit: it isnt worth paying more for something you wont use at full potential, its like getting an i9 12900k when you plan on just playing csgo in 1080p

Hello all,

I was looking to upgrade to a card in the 400-600 EUR range. The 6700XT probably, but I was waiting to see the pricing and performance of the 4070.

At these prices:

- RX 6700XT: 405 EUR

- RTX 4070: 669 EUR (theoretically, remains to be seen)

- RX 6950XT: 689 EUR.

Everyone in the reviews of the RTX 4070 is saying at these prices, get the 6950XT, since it is much faster than the 4070 at the same price.

BUT: looking at the 6700XT, the 6950XT is like 47% faster, but 70% more expensive. So the real value king in this lineup is still the 6700XT?

Am I correct, or missing something here? Thanks!

No, the real value king is the 6800 or 6800 xt. It has equal performance to the 4070 and the 6800 xt has even more at 170 euros less than the 4070. Go for the 6800 or 6800 xt. I would go for the 6800 xt

I'd read somewhere that the RX 6800 had fallen to around 470USD, that, in my book, makes it the most effective price/performance card around. It;s more powerful than the RX 6700 XT, obviously, with 16GB VRAM buffer, ensuring that it'd be able to handle all newer game at higher ingame setting + light RT workload. But, IF <400USD is the budget limit, the RX 6700 10GB/6750 XT 12GB/6700 XT 12GB are the clear winners.

Radeon is basically the "go to" regarding price and performance although nvidia performs better in some scenarios and vice versa
A noticeable thing is that radeon suffers from spikes ( when a new model comes out ) and it takes a while for them to stabilize it with the driver updates

Correct me if I said something misleading here guys

I have both the RX 6900 XT and the RX 7900 XTX (see sig below), and rarely have I seen issue with spikes in games, I do know that AMD cards did have issue with DX11 games, but have made much progress with driver updates.

But the cheapest 6800 XT in my region is 620 EUR. That doesnt seem compelling and the 6950XT at 689 seems way better value.

The 6800 is very hard to find seems like.

There are almost no 6800's in stock in my region (Benelux) and the 6800XT is 620 euros. So that pricing doesnt exist here.

If I could get the 6800XT for 470 EUR that would obviously be a good deal, but its not.

Yeah you're right. Im at 1440p/ 60. Wont be looking at going to 4K any time soon. Just want to be able to max everything out at 1440p.

Another issue is I have a small ItX case (sugo 13) and besides the AMD reference 6950XT, i cannot find the more powerful cards that even fit my case. Exceptions are the 6700XT and the 4070, those would fit. So it seems like the higher end cards are just not meant for small builds anyway (triple slot super long cards only).
