Computer sleep mode

so i always used to just put my computer into sleep mode , however when i do it now the screen turns of and that but my pc is still running and the fans are still spinning. It used to basically shut my pc down but it doesnt seem to do this anymore and in  stead keeps the fans and that running like normal ? dunno if anyone has any ideas on a  fix
