LTT "Steam Deck" Bag - Tell Us Your Thoughts!

RILEYISMYNAME

I would totally love to see a day pack type of bag. I already have a book bag that's perfect for class, but a smaller day pack/ super light travel carry on is what I'd be looking for. Steam deck size / slightly large would be great. I don't game while on my daily commute since I live in a large city and the commutes pretty short, but I'll usually carry lunch and a book when going to work, along with other odds and ends. As for travel I  usually pack pretty light, Steam deck and chargers is all I'll really bring.

As for something larger like a messenger bag? Wouldn't use it. I used a large Timbuk2 messenger bag for years and had issues with weight distribution and general organization. Most times when picking up the bag (as long as the items weren't thin and flat) everything just kinda fell into the middle and was super annoying.

Outer water bottle, perfect!

I am interested in a bag that can carry a steam deck + a few extra things. I don't work in tech but I use a sling every day to just keep a few things on me in case I get stuck in traffic or at work for an extended period of time.

I like bag that could easily hold the Steam Deck and/or Nintendo Switch OLED (would prefer it to be bigger so it could hold a steam deck, and I would have an option to use it for a switch instead if I wanted). Being able to hold keys/wallet/phone/chargers. Just something with like a smallish EDC feel in mind, if that makes any sense? I definitely don't want it to just solely be able to hold a steam deck and/or switch. Love the organization and style of the backpack but with my work I do not nearly need to carry as much so it would be wasted on me. I also hope the bag will have a fair bit of organization and not just hole to dump things into if possible.

I personally prefer bags in the 7 to 12L size. I enjoy the Bellroy venture sling 9L (as well as Aer pro sling as well as the Aer day sling 3 max) and I feel that would be a good place to draw inspiration from. Really enjoy the outer water pocket and hope it would be able to store other things if possible like potentially an umbrella or other small things. Potentially hold a tripod maybe for the photography enthusiasts?

Thanks

PacSafe metro ls200 has been my daily driver. Repurchased a few times over the last 10yrs once it get beaten up/ripping and whatnots.

https://pacsafe.com/products/metrosafe-ls200-anti-theft-medium-crossbody-bag

The outside area fits the LTT 21oz water bottle which im super glad for + another outside pouch for random junk like an small umbrella (vancover weather, gotta love it)

Hearing a bag being announced made me excited until I saw the bag. I understand everyone has their preference, but I made an account to give my 2 cents.

Steam deck size is nice but is a bit hefty in length. Wanting to hold a steam deck and other goods, you will be getting close to a small backpack.

Keep it a decent size for all my other random items (wallet, power bank, other random personal goods) with an outside pouch to hold a 21oz water bottle id be happy.

Looking forward to other revisions!

Whadup it's ya boi Riley back with another request for lttstore product-related feedback, this time about the prototype "Steam Deck" bag Linus demoed on WAN Show last week.

image.png

If you have thoughts, feel free to answer any or all of these questions:

  • Are you interested / Do you see value in something like this over something larger like a messenger bag? In what scenarios could you see it being useful?
  • Would you use it primarily for your Steam Deck, Switch or something else?
    • Would you like a bigger "Steam Deck" version and a smaller "Switch" version?
  • Does it seem like a good size, or would you prefer it bigger / smaller?
  • The water bottle holder - whatsay you?

We love your brains and thoughts! Let us in there!

The bag that comes with the steam deck only holds the steam deck, so I could absolutely see value in a bigger bag for it. It would also be nice to have the option to be a switch in it instead.

That being said, I don't really like the design of this prototype bag. I want something that doesn't necessarily look like I'm clearly carrying a handheld console. Something more subtle would be my preference.

I do love having somewhere to put my water bottle though! I like having my hands free so even if it was just attached to the strap with a carabineer I would be happy.

A bag idea that I think would be nice would be a mini back pack for 2x steam decks or switches or 1 of each. My SO has a mini book bag instead of a purse. I think a design similar to that might be a nice option. Not that I love offloading everything on her, but just having an option like that might be nice. A mini bookbag with room for 2x steam decks, chargers, and some snacks!

So have been more of a lurker in the forum but poping out to give feedback on this since it is a product that I would be very interested in. Posted original feedback on FP on the VOD but reposting here with the question you had.

Origonal feedback:
I would love something like this but not the main use case you guys are looking at. The Ltt backpack has become my main travel bag however it is a bit to big to carry around town. I generally walk and take public transit when I travel so I have to carry everything on my person (water, camera, extra camera battery, travel tripod, extra camera cards, battery charger, tickets, info/map brochures) and a bag of this design and size made with the same quality as the backpack would be a very desirable product for me. (basically the LTT backpack acting as a home base travel bag and this one as the going around town bag). Also, as always I like additional webbing on the outside of all my bags so I can add and remove additional pouches as I need them.

  • Are you interested / Do you see value in something like this over something larger like a messenger bag? In what scenarios could you see it being useful?

Yes very much so, use case see above but TlDR would be travel LTT backpack would be home base in the hotel this bag would be the walking around the town bag.

  • Would you use it primarily for your Steam Deck, Switch or something else?

Something else, I am not very much of a mobile gamer, Pic of daily carry when traveling attached.

  • Would you like a bigger "Steam Deck" version and a smaller "Switch" version?
  • Does it seem like a good size, or would you prefer it bigger / smaller?
  • The water bottle holder - whatsay you?

Yes water bottle holder fits with my primary use case

I'm a ham radio operator, with some limited police/fire/medical training (went a different career path in the end, so nowhere near an expert- but a little unique in outlook because of this), so some of my suggestions take inspiration from the military/police space.

I'm going over things in no particular order, so some of these will probably fit in perfectly with the desired use case/theme of the project, and a few of these will probably be a stretch. - Hopefully the  "bad ideas" that I am able to give, will lead to better ideas down the iteration pipeline.

(Edit) Would be looking at something not much larger than the "steam deck" size, a "full size" messenger bag would be too much in my opinion.

  • Ideally, I would want the bag to be able to convert between "shoulder bag" and "butt pack". (I wouldn't expect LTT to supply the belt, as there are a ton of excellent options for those in the military/police space.) - Along the same vein, a small d-ring (or loop for adding own d-ring) would be welcome to accommodate suspenders if used in this manner.
  • I would also want a few MOLLE or PALS compatible loops (but definitely not needed over every square inch of available surface), because it would be nice to be able to clip on the future LTT screwdriver holster, or other compatible pouches for equipment people might already have. (radio pouch, multimeter pouch, multi-tool pouch, etc.)
  • This one is probably a bit out of scope for an LTT shoulder bag, but I'll throw it out there in case it inspires a better idea. - It would be interesting to accommodate clips/loops in the shoulder strap, that would allow the use of a hydration bladder. (or, perhaps more realistically, iterate a replacement lid for the water bottle that has a hose barb fitting and check valve that would allow the bottle to be used like it were a hydration bladder)
  • I would like water bottle "holster" area to the 21 ounce bottle, but would love if the tolerances (for compatability) are loose enough for the 41oz to squeeze in. I have done traffic control duties for large events in my area, and would prefer to have at least a quart (1 litre) of water on me if possible. (I understand the reasoning behind specifying 21oz only, and if it can't/shouldn't be done... I get it.)
  • Along the same line of reasoning, I would like the bottle area to be usable for other things besides the water bottle. A rolled up anti-static mod mat, a tarp, a thin blanket, etc. (It already looks like the prototype could handle that, but a little more consideration for this in future iterations could be interesting)
  • I could also see something like a "tear-away" panel as being interesting. Again, probably a little out of scope, but I wouldn't mind it for my own use-case. (I have one tear-away bag for first aid supplies in my personal vehicle, and a second one for roadside emergency tools that mount to the back of my seats.) - I wouldn't expect LTT to make the vehicle mounting system, but making it belt compatible, would also pave the way for adding a tear-away panel.
  • What about adding adjustable elastic loops to the various interior pockets? I have a few non-LTT tool rolls, tool pouches, and tool bags, that don't end up having much use for me, because I can't get certain tools to stay in place securely. (I'm looking for a way to cinch the interior pockets tighter, not so much "supplemental" loops)
  • Along the same line of reasoning, a removable panel on the inside that could attach with zipper or Velcro would be interesting, in case you need more organization and less of a "main pocket". (A panel that is is designed to accommodate an RJ-45 crimper, punch down-tool, and a few mesh pockets for the fittings / loose adaptors, for example)
  • Depending on the zipper selection, would it be possible to have an extra loop behind the zipper? (Somewhere for a key ring or luggage tag to be clipped without interfering with the closure, especially if the zipper already has the loops for a travel lock) - I'm thinking bag identification and/or property-tag for a service similar to Stuffbak or Return.Me

I've avoided linking to the various products that have features similar to the one I'm mention to avoid running afoul of forum rules (as I understand them) and to avoid cluttering up the post. - If desired for clarification purposes, I'm happy to add links/photo's later on.

I would like the proposed bag to be a multi-role bag that could integrate well with the backpack. - Borrowing from the military/police world, it's fairly common to have a "butt pouch" that is slung lower on the belt, that the backpack is worn over the top of. It allows the most important stuff to be carried, even if the main pack needs to ditched to save weight. - It might be extravagant on the "tech" side of things, but having the multi-role utility would be nice for someone that might be doing a lot of outdoor work, but still might have to bring or maintain tech-based equipment at the same time.

I have to admit that I don't own the LTT backpack currently, and the first LTT pack purchase for me is likely going to be this shoulder bag, depending on close it meets my perceived needs once it's available. - I have no doubt that whatever does get made will be awesome. (I've already purchased something like 11 water bottles, half of them as gifts, and had to buy the screwdriver as soon as the "backorder" was available.) - Would still like to be able to integrate the proposed bag with a possible backpack purchase in the nebulous future. - At this point I just have more use for a "shoulder"/"butt" or "3-day" pack, than the full backpack for now.

Hope the rambling post helps, at least to a degree.

Overall love the idea of a LTT branded / well made bag.

Only MAJOR request, would be if it fits the steam deck, be sure it will fit the deck, WITH the KillSwitch case/front cover.

But not a overly large bag. I wouldn't want to feel like I'm carrying around Marry Poppits bag with everything including the kitchen sink in it. I would want the steam deck to have but SO much room to slide around and collide with whatever else might be in there.

Maybe a side pocket, or slot, for a little battery bank and a wire. Or an internal strap to hold down a switch?

As for the bottle holder, I'm pretty sure it was already mentioned on the show but, the more adjustable the better.

I could easily see myself spending upwards $100-150 give or take.

But absolutely love the potential idea.

I made a forum account to comment on this because it is something I wish LTT would do.

I would purchase a well-made (similar quality and thoughtfulness as LTT Backpack) messenger-style bag. I own an old Swiss Gear that lasted me for a while, and it was excellent quality, but it is now starting to fall apart. I have searched for replacements online, and other options seem cheaply made or don’t have enough space for me especially many listings on amazon.  I still have the option to purchase the same bag again but I would like a high-quality messenger bag done the LTT way. It could also include pockets or dividers for portable devices like switch and steam deck but I feel like tech sack already completes the niche this product originally aimed to be when pitched on wan show.

Here is a example of the type of messenger bag I would love to see: https://a.co/d/29gIVnH

let me repost my 2 cents from the other "non official" topic.

I whould highly prefer a messenger style bag, it been my go to bag for well over 20 years now, and ever since the backpack came out and Linus has dropped a mention at some point of possible more bags i been holding out on replacing my current one (to small)
Specialised bags like the steamdeck/handheld one Linus showed on WAN are nice in theory but as soon as you need to bring something else you will just end up chucking it into a bigger bag anyway.
If a messenger bag will be a thing i whould love to point out a few things i have noticed in the long time i been daily using these type of bags.

- Many of them the adjustment cant be properly locked into place and over a (short) amount of time the band will losen, plenty of them i ended up sewing the band in a fixed position cause it whould drive me nuts over the course of the day the bag whould hang lower and lower.
- Make sure there a nice pad that can slide along the band ALOT of them dont have that and those really dig into your shoulder.
- Outside storage for a waterbottle is great but please make it on the side because a top mounted one is anoying when getting stuff out of the bag and a bottom mounted one like you showed really messes up your water bottle quick plus i realy dont want the part i put near my mouth resting on any benches or chairs i sit in.
- Although the main reason i been holding/hoping for an LTT one is how thoughtfully configured the backpack is with its compartments, i will still mention several compartments is a must even with a smaller bag.
- It should be able to hold something A4 size, keys, sunglasses, wallet, phone offcourse the waterbottle and the screwdriver with room to spare.
- And a thing many many bags in this space overlook, make sure the damn adjustment and shoulder padding for the band are suitable for left handed people cause those will wear it over the other shoulder i have had so many where the adjustment buckle whould just grind into my shoulder blade or the slideable shoulder pad whould not go past a certain point and i could not wear the bag on my back when riding my bike.

Loved the design shown and wouldn't mind a version that is slightly larger than could also hold a tablet. I personally can't stand messenger style bags, and find sling/cross-body bags to be far superior. I also love the external water storage idea.

I would love something this size!

I would use this to carry a Steam Deck to and from job to use it the bus.

I would also love an messenger bag that's large enough for a 16" laptop with enough space for a controller and charging brick for longer travels. Like a visit to my friend or for a trip to a cabin.

I could see the advantage to both sizes. But, my vote is for the larger messenger style bag. I grew up in the 90s so I think cargo pants are da bomb and similarly when I switched to messenger bags in the 2010s I've never looked back. While we have the awesome LTT backpack that holds a ton. It just seems a bit inconvenient for daily wear. I much prefer a messager bag when traveling instead of a bulky bag. When I'm out exploring a city Tokyo, London, NYC, etc.. or even just walking around my local mall. It's much easier to take my wallet out of a bag on my side instead of back.

While yes a sling/fanny pack bag could solve the issue for wallets and stuff. It's nice to have room to store reusable shopping bags, smaller items you may buy like a spare canned coffee or something else. Doesn't have to be a huge bag but just something with better storage than the sling IMO.

But, hey I think both would sell well. Slings are super hot right now and could be worn with the backpack and not interfere with rushing through the airport or whatever.

Would be nice to have the bag be large enough to hold a steam deck with a shell / case on it (I have a killswitch case which I love and would hate to have to give that up to fit it in the bag.)

I think this would be a great day-pack for outings around town. I would love to have room for the following items:

  • steam deck
  • LTT water bottle (I reach for this thing all the time, so the mechanism for putting it in and taking it out needs to be super easy and fast.)
  • Wallet (Maybe could have integrated RFID blocking material?)
  • Phone
  • Keys (I have mine on a Carabiner, so maybe just a loop on the outside to clip them to quickly when I leave my car?)
  • Airpods / Wireless earbuds / Wired earbuds
  • Charger (one wall wart + maybe 2 or 3 cables. A few cable straps like the tech sack has would be perfect!)
  • (Maybe) a small power bank (not necessary for my use case, but others may think differently)

Maybe the size is bigger than most small slings, but smaller than a messenger bag. Somewhere right in the middle. Enough storage to hold more stuff than I could otherwise store in my pockets / on my belt, but not so much room that it would compete size-wise with a backpack.

I love the idea for this bag!

I think the size shown on WAN show was just about perfect, I've been looking for something like this for months due to having a smaller laptop, iPad and the miscellaneous tools that I'd like to be able to carry in something smaller than a backpack or full messenger bag, plus a water bottle because I'm seemingly always dehydrated.

Because multiple people talked about different size I would like to show you an old product from Ikea.

https://www.ebay.it/itm/304430291526 (unfortunately they do not sell it anymore, so I linked an ebay post) this was a 2 in 1 backpack, it may inspire you to create a 2 in 1 messanger back.

A bit the same way you show with waterbottle outside, it would be nice if you can have a bigger bag for latptop plus a detachable smaller bag (the one you show in the wan show) for the switch/steamdeck.

it would be nice if you can have a system which allow you to de/re-attach the big or small bag to the strap and another one to link the small bag to the bigger one.

1. I like the idea of this messenger tech bag.

2. There should be two sleeves. One sleeve for a laptop, the other for an ipad when you're carrying your laptop. But when its game day, don't bring your laptop or ipad. On game day the ipad sleeve is used for the steamdeck or switch and is made with the elastic material used to hold the ltt waterbottle in the backpack such that it is tight enough to hold a slim ipad or a chonky steamdeck or a switch. The sleeve is short enough so the thumb sticks are not impeded on but deep enough to hold a full size portable game console or ipad.

I prefer a larger size bag at least in height.

I like the waterbottle holder but I want to be able to run to class knowing it won't come off. I have the LTT backpack and I am still interested in this product at its current size and preferably a larger size.

Oh don't forget the airtag pocket! Love you're work LMG!

As someone who has used a messenger bag for years and kind of ignored the fanny pack/small over shoulder bags I would like to see a larger bag with the ability to cinch things smaller.  My current bag is essentially one large pocket with straps on the bottom to adjust it's size.  I then have a rigid laptop sleeve I will slide in and cinch things closed when I am going to work, or when I am going shopping I will make it as big as I can.  I have had multiple people say to me "are you sure you don't need another bag" only to see expand its size and be like "oh dang... that got real big real fast".  The only down side is when I have it smaller the straps can dangle, but I just tuck them away.  I think one large pocket with removable sleeves for things like a laptop/steam deck/switch/etc. would be the best of both worlds; with maybe Velcro to hold them in place (though this may make things to expensive).  Also a dedicated place for a U Lock would be awesome!  I currently just throw mine into my bag, but if there was a dedicated quick place to lock it on it would be great.

I would use it for hiking, Iike a small crossbody bag with the water bottle with room for other things. I think the size that was shown is good or something similar, if you made it like a messenger bag It would destroy the crossbody feature.

I think my biggest concern is that I would worry way too much about accidentally smashing one of the sticks since the bag isn't a hard shell case.

I think I'd rather just use my Valve hard case and then put that in a bigger daily carry bag.

As a small venn diagram of programmer single speed bicycle hipster, Chrome slings are my go to.  I know Chrome has a patent (and I think trademark) on using seatbelt clasps, but this type of.ease of access would be mandatory for me for any sling/messenger.  That said, it would be really hard to pull me away from Chrome with any product offering.

This is what I carry my steam deck around in now:
