Automatic backup solution

Hello there,

First post here, long time viewer of the LTT youtube channel. Before anything else, sorry for my English, it's not my mother tongue.

Let's get right to it: I'm eager to find a backup solution that fits my purpose, but I dont know if I'm asking too much or it's so simple that I'm not seeing it. My goal: not having my external backup HD connected all the time for safety purposes and having an automatic backup set up (only of the changes made in the target folders since the last time I plugged it) when I plug it.

Even if I have to do it manually, I'll be pleased, but I can't find (or I'm too dumb to set it up) an incremental backup that keeps the exact same folder structure and I'm stuck with copying the entire thing. I want to use the backup HD as an external drive if I want, dont want it to be a strange file that I have to restore to use it.

Again, sorry if my english made this entire post utterly complicated to understand, and thank you for taking the time to try to help me.

I'm guessing you are on Windows?
If so, give FBackup a try (free tier) and if you like it perhaps consider purchasing Backup4all (~40$ one-time payment, no recurring fees).

Comparison between free & paid:

PS I have no affiliation with the company, used to use FBackup and I found it adequate for my needs at the time.

Backblaze. The only downfall is that any external drives you wish to have backed up must be connected to your computer once every 30 days.

Thank you both

Sadly, DrMacintosh, I'm not interested in cloud backup. I bought an external HD for that purpose. Maybe FBackup, that Biohazard777 mentions will do the trick, will check it out in the next few days.

For clarification: I want my external backup HD to be a perfect mirror of my internal HD. And to update all the files that I change in the internal HD on my external backup HD every time I plug it in.

Again, thanks for taking the time to answer.

I've been playing with FBackup, and except the automatic part looks like it works. Still tweaking parameters to been able to mirror not only new files but the deletion of them on the original HD.

Thank you Biohazard777, truly.
