Partial back up information needed

Ok I am in the process of building a new PC, It will be shared with my wife. I am going to have a 2 TB m.2. I want to buy her something like 2 high capacity ironwolf hdd’s I want both of those drives to work in a Raid 1 configuration. What will I need to do that? I do not want the m.2 to be apart of it.

You can run the 2 hdd's in raid 1 using either windows or the motherboards software raid controller. Windows is by far easier to setup compared to motherboard raid. Raid 1 mirrors the drive so read speeds will be improved but you only get one drive worth of capacity and write speeds, but one can sustain a failure. Whatever you do, do not use RAID 0, thats a disaster waiting to happen.

Obligatory: “Raid is not a backup.”

Raid is only for redundancy, not a backup. I’ll also add that in my professional experience: we don’t consider anything semi permanently attached to the host machine a backup device either.
