Streaming Vs. FIle Recording

Does recording to a file take less cpu power than live streaming? I tried to stream LOL using Obs to twitch but the footage was very laggy and i think uploading to youtube will get me more views anyways so i want to know if recording to a file will make my videos less choppy.

But it might be worse, considering the large file size of raw videos.

if you are steaming and it is laggy its prob your net, and if you use obs to record and stream it should be about the same

i would recomend to upgrade your whole system if you want to stream and record http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3GBvq somthing like this and reuse old components that are missing

Since they use same process to compress and render I doubt it. Streaming uses more net speeds. Its more likely that you are trying to record/stream with too heavy settings than you gpu/cpu can handle.

Get something like an Elgato or something, you can use it to record with no pc performance impact and it can stream to twitch too. (not cheap there might be alternatives though), can also record other things like consoles, ipad games, and what not

The thing is, there's no such thing as "streaming". The file is being saved to at least memory but in most cases even hdd to scroll back and such (take a look at your browser's temporary files you'll find gigabyes of stuff and in Linux for example you'll likely find a couple of flash video files just lying there waiting to be deleted when new content is accessed). It's just temporary and it gets deleted when the stream gets interrupted and some stream sites go to great measures to ensure the files are not accessible offline but other than encryption, you can pretty much download any video you can stream.

And because of this, even if you use a regular torrent as long as you delete the file when you're done you're technically streaming anyway: No different than hitting play and immediately pausing on a flash player and then coming back to the browser an hour later to watch the entire thing.
