Help!! when I plug in a four way usb 2.0 splitter to my motherboard a back panel IO USB C will not function

theRatty

I was told before I purchased it that there was no way this would overload my motherboards usb processing but it seems to not be the case. I am about to install many more USB devices internally for my first hardline project for all the rgb devices. Is it time to upgrade the X570 taichi for a godlike or something?

Ive found these cheap USB splitters are junk.  Likely the real problem.  Ive never had one that worked as intended unfortunately.

THe only way it would block a rear IO header, is if they are connected to that communication of the 2.0 header (which I dont see how that is possible) - try another USB header on the mainboard.

The usb c on the back panel is plugged into an adapter for usb A and plugs into my keyboard and a 4k webcam. The usb motherboard splitter however when plugged in the keyboard never turns on even its rgb. It appears likely I am overloading whatever chip manages all usb connection on my motherboard as I use a fair number of my usb ports and motherboard connections.

So you have the USB C I/O filled with a adapter

And you plug another adapter into the USB 2.0 header on the motherboard and it no longer lets you use the adapter on the USC C I/O

Just making sure I have this correct before moving forward

yes that is correct. There are also plenty of usb ports being filled on the back of the motherboard and the 3.0 and usb c headers and the other usb 2.0 header filled on the motherboard.

So lets eliminate an adapter issue - if you remove the adapter on the USB C I/O does it allow the splitter you plugged in to work?

I removed the usb c adapter and plugged my k95 into my usb 3.0 ports instead and the keyboard turned on. But now icue wont show the connected usb controllers for rgb plugged into my splitter

What USB 2.0 splitter

Ive used these, they suck massively - never once got them to work as intended

that's the exact one I used. when i just removed my vertical gpu a couple minutes ago to switch my rgb strip device to the mobo rgb header from the splitter i tried to boot my pc with that splitter device plugged in but not connected to anything and the lights on the mobo would turn on for a milisecond and then turn off over and over. I unplugged the splitter and now my pc boots. Do you recommend a different usb splitter that does work?

I just know that is the splitter I choose for a large project that failed miserably.  I have no other experience with USB 2.0 splitters.

I had 4 of them, and not 1 worked as "intended" to even split the USB header as viable.  If I plugged in one device it might work, but eventually dropped.  Most the time just cycled the things connected to it (as plugged in, not plugged in, rinse repeat).  Also had the same boot issues you described.

The only splitters Ive used that worked was USB 2.0 male (not header splitter) adapters that broke out to additional 2.0 slots.

Im going to need several more usb slots for watercooling my case and all the fans i need to plug in, do you recommend an x570 mobo with two usb c mobo connectors and at least 4 usb 2.0 headers and at least 2 usb 3.0 headers?

What is your daisychain needs?  How many connections?  Fans shouldnt need USB even for monitoring?

Ive done lots of neat watercooling builds (quite extravagant to, triple radiators push pull etc), not sure what is all getting plugged into those headers.

You are running 5 commander pros?

If thats the case I would want a USB header for each, not adding a splitter.

this is going to be a crazy project i think i need a new mobo. What do you recommend with enough slots for all the usb? I decided instead of commander pros to use lighting node pros and off brand fan hubs that connect directly to sata and one fan port that i plug into a single commander pro. that way I can save a buck on all the commanders and still adjust all fans rpm at the same time.
