So I’m building my new pc (new to all this) I was thinking of getting the Intel arc A770 16gb but my brother just bought a pre built and already wants to upgrade his , so he says he’ll sell me his 3060. Should I snag it and save some cash or buy the arc ? I wana play at least 1440 on my 4k monitor high frames not really needed as I don’t play first person shooters

3060, for stability alone. Intel isn't ready for newbies.

I wouldn't get an A770 for 1440p, but I dont have data off the top of my head to support that - Its just a vague recollection from LTT or GamersNexus benchmarks.

Even if you don't need high FPS at 1440p, you'll want to ensure the lowest 1% or 5% FPS isn't under 60 FPS (I'd want 90+ FPS), otherwise that means frame drops will be jarring, and I though I recalled Intel GPUs having a bigger gap between average and 1% FPS.

I see that no one mentioned that RTX 3060 for 1440p will be miserable. Don't get either of those GPUs, you're not going to have good fps now and especially later down the line. RTX 3060 is not even an excellent 1080p GPU, let alone a 1400p GPU.

Get RX 6700 (XT) or RTX 3060 Ti at the very least.

Occassionaly visits the forum when I have nothing to do at work.

I have an Arc A770 - it's awesome, especially at 1440p. I've heard it handles 4K respectably. Performance is still a little inconsistent. I haven't had any problems at all in games, but I know there are some games that are still having issues. They are currently working on DX11 performance. Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order now runs 20 FPS faster than it did a few weeks ago, and frames are buttery smooth. As they iron out the bugs in the drivers, this thing is becoming quite a monster.

FYI don't buy it if you aren't able to troubleshoot bugs, or wait for a fix from app developers or Intel. They released a driver that broke Topaz Video Enhance AI, but after about 2 weeks of messing around I was able to find a work around while they fix it. Now Topaz claims in their latest release it's all been fixed. This is just part of being an early adopter, but if you don't feel like dealing with the setbacks (or you don't derive some sort of joy from it), go with NVIDIA. Otherwise, it's a great deal.
