Installed new CPU, Pc running slower

JJ_EmEZ

Decided to go ahead and start updrading my cpu and gpu

GPU : MSI VENTUS 2x OC GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB

CPU : Ryzen 7 2700

MOBO : Gigabyte B450 Aorus pro wifi

PSU : Apevia 800w Gold

CPU cooler : Bequiet dark 4 cpu cooler

RAM : Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 32GB (4 x 8GB)

Got a ryzen 7 5800x and two more sticks of ram (to get to the four in the list) and had to do a bios update so my mobo could support the cpu. Everything went fine with the bios update so i installed the cpu, after installation I noticed my pc would run slower overall and certain apps like discord and spotify were going non-responsive. Reinstalled the 2700 and everything was fine so i figured i got a bad cpu. I got a replacement 5800x and installed that one and my pc starting running even slower to the point where it was taking a while to turn on and off. Was told by some technicians at microcenter that 5800s throttle easily so getting a better fan might help because i had been using the wraith cooler that came with the 2700 (it did not help), I also decided to go ahead and get a 3060 while I was in the store (upgrade from 1660). Figured maybe my mobo just couldnt handle a 5000 gen so i got a 3700x, installed it and had the same issues as before so now i'm sitting with a 2700 and a 3060. I want to return the 3700x and be done with it, but I dont want to under utilise a 3060 by having a 2700. Any reason why I am having so much trouble upgrading my cpu?

Generally i will ALWAYS recommend fresh install with CPU upgrades. For the best results due to Drivers, and junk installations and build up, fresh install is the best route to go.

Id imagine your cooler is fine, yes the 5800x is a bit hotter then a 2700, but your cooler is more then enough.

Id honestly sounds like its conflicting drivers in windows. You can try doing some PBO tuning in bios to get the best results, but if you dont know what your doing, i would watch quite a few videos with your specific motherboard.

Don't think i've heard of pbo tuning. I considered needing a fresh windows install but i've had problems with reinstalling windows in the past, also not wanting to have to redownload everything so I tried to avoid it. Just for clarification, if i were to reinstall windows, first i'd put the new cpu in, then boot from the windows installation tool and install windows fresh onto the drive?

Which bios version did you flash to?

Also, do you use the latest chipset drivers downloaded from AMD?

Xmp (docp) loaded?

What kind of a performance degradation are we talking about?

Do you have any numbers from benchmarks (for example 3DMark, game benchmarks, ...)?

xmp was loaded, i have a profile setup that runs ram at 3400

Sorry, didnt do any benchmarks to get concrete numbers but performance drop was very obvious. As far as in game, when i initially installed the 5800x games would load quicker and I would get higher frame rates (120+ on destiny, 200+ on league) but it would not last more than 10 minutes at a time or if it was consistent then whatever tasks i had in the background would run slowly or be non-responsive
